Before OT/SO, teams had to win in regulation to get 2 points. Fewer games ended in a tie after 60 because teams pushed harder to get that second point.Possibly why so many OTs as teams are playing not to lose and at least get the 1 point.
I'm liking the coaching changeWings 5 game win streak. Held OTT off the board 5v5.
Wings 'bout to take a WC slot.
Every mid team in the east taking a turn in a WC spot for a couple days before going on a losing streak this year it seems lolWings 5 game win streak. Held OTT off the board 5v5.

You realize I said I posted that before the final penalty was even called, right? I was not talking about the OT callThere was no dive. Why in the world would Seider dive while having a clear lane to the net? Tell me you’ve never played hockey without telling me you’ve never played hockey.
Point denies a pointBrayden Point denies the Canes a point
My memory was of the opposite. Both teams would turtle in the back half of the 3rd to secure the tie. Before OT/SO, teams had to win in regulation to get 2 points. Fewer games ended in a tie after 60 because teams pushed harder to get that second point.
Today, they play not to lose more often because they know they can get the extra point in OT.

They added OT/SO to make teams go for 2. Now, I can see why you end up with the same problem anyway. But that’s what I remember as the original reason
Well, I’m Canadian and grew up in Ontario, so.You realize I said I posted that before the final penalty was even called, right? I was not talking about the OT call

First place in the North divisionYeah, but the Leafs weren't really the top seed that year.
Yeah, division, not conference. But the Habs were the 18th seed or whateverFirst place in the North division
I checked the numbers. Believe it or not, there are significantly more tie games after 60 today than there were before OT/SO. From memory, league average was about 10 ties per team in the 1990s. Today, about 16 games per team end up tied after 60.My memory was of the opposite. Both teams would turtle in the back half of the 3rd to secure the tie.
