You betcha. We're so bored of this movie.

As with every other trend these days, we're channeling the late 90s-early 2000s

It's the year 2000. After another disappointing couple of seasons involving missed playoffs or first round losses, The Los Angeles Kings get out to a hot start through the first few months before a road trip around the turn of the year starts to derail them...they fumble around playing slightly .500 hockey to land in the unfortunate 'Pacific' playoff spot out of the division lead, forced to play against arguably the best players in the era trying to establish dominance after losing in the previous year to the Stanley Cup Champion. They get unceremoniously turfed in just a few games due to a patchwork roster that doesn't have much of an identity. Their 1 and 2cs are primarily defensive and much of the scoring is laid onto the back of a dynamic winger. Fortunately they still have a Norris Caliber dman, though aging. But years of sketchy management are catching up, with dwindling assets and an aging roster despite a lack of success, and appear headed towards a black hole. Familiar names in the organization include Rob Blake, Luc Robitaille, Glen Murray, Nelson Emerson, Craig Johnson, and Sean O'Donnell.

Gee wonder what happens next
The king's are definitely an odd story and an example of over hyping prospects.
I remember all the experts falling over themselves praising them when there were plenty of red flags like the fact none had actually made the king's and judging them in the AHL at a time a lot of AHL guys were on taxi squads, weakening the talent pool.

I give credit to Blake for pivoting but not a big fan of players he brought in and shipped out.
Also when you multiple top 5 picks you damn well better hit on those picks. Byfields a good player but is clearly another example of a big body dominating against smaller players.

EP is on pace for 54 points

they may be elite players but they’re playing like garbage this year. Hughes and Hronek (injured) being the exceptions
With EP there needs to be context. He was unable to train over the summer and wasn't a 100% to start the year. Started putting up his normal production only to get hurt again. I think the injury forced him to adjust his style but I think the last handful of games he's starting to find his game and I think he finds his game again. I also think given his personality some of his struggles are mental, he has never had a slump like this or been a part of the trie negative side of Vancouver media. That's on him he needs to learn how to better handle the hard times and hopefully he has.
