What about the CBJ, who lost in 5 games to TB in Round 2?

Yeah, the Leafs were a bad team that season. CBJ had a better record than them. They fired Babcock that season. They were at risk of missing the playoffs (they finished 9th) but Covid created an extended playoffs.

CBJ swept the President's Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning the season before too.

Nah, it wasn’t some special season where the Leafs happened to be bad. It was the Leafs crumbling under pressure, as they do every season, no matter the opponent.

CBJ and the Leafs had the same record that season. Go look it up.

The Leafs were 8th/9th in the East that season. They were a playoff bubble team. It's the last season we saw Babcock in the league.

CBJ swept the President's Trophy winning Tampa Bay Lightning the season prior.

You're going back a long time now. It's like saying Ottawa is better than Edmonton because Winnipeg swept Edmonton or because Edmonton lost to Chicago a few years ago.

Yes, because the Leafs have been absolutely flooded with playoff success since then

And Ottawa has?

We're comparing the Leafs to Ottawa. Ottawa is worse than teams that lose in the first round because teams that lost in the first round make the playoffs.

You're not going to convince anyone Ottawa is better than playoff teams because they couldn't make the playoffs. Ottawa could get in the playoffs and get swept. We'll have to see.

Speaking of playoff choking, Ullmark is the goalie that turned the greatest regular season of all time into a first round exit.

It sure is nice of SJ to give LA so much time to practice their anemic powerplay. They're even letting some in to help them build confidence. How neighborly.

Obviously they’ve committed some dumb penalties.

But, one of the under appreciated parts of being a tanking team is that you get no breaks from the refs.

They assume you want to lose anyways, so normal game mgmt (or tick for tack) stuff doesn’t apply.

He wasn’t great in that one, but neither were Swayman’s numbers.

Swayman only started Game 7 after Ullmark gave up 6 goals in Game 6.

Boston wins that series if they start Swayman. Alex Lyon played the first 4 games that series for Florida. Ullmark kept Florida in that series long enough for them to switch to Bob and for Bob to get hot. Entire series is likely over in 4 or 5 with Swayman.

So would losing to Boston in R2 make you feel better? What’s the point in all these hypotheticals?

Cats are Cup champs, Leafs still haven’t gotten out of the 2nd round.

Read the thread instead of jumping in when you have no idea what's going on expecting someone else to explain it to you.

No one (except you?) was comparing Toronto to Florida.

Well that’s what I get for watching the Kings and hoping they’d lose.
You should've watched their last two games. They could've used it.

I don't care if they win or lose at this point, so long as we don't have to watch Kings/Oilers again. It seems pretty hopeless, though. According to ESPN, there's a 98% probability.

this game is a perfect example why expansion at this time is a horrific idea

Romanov couldn't stop a beach ball

I feel strongly with 32 teams there are multiple players, especially goalies in the league who don't belong

I don't want to think what it will look like if they do add 4 teams

it's not so much a lack of talent, it's a lack of talent distribution. the cap has made it all but impossible to fix issues with a team. so bad teams get locked into being bad until they draft their way out.

to be fair, everyone looks rejuvenated against the sharks defense. it was already worst in the league and now is literally AHL/pressbox quality.
Sure, but I’m not referring to just tonight’s game. He looks fresher, has more jump than in the past couple of years.
