I would be furious if I was either the Panthers and the Lightning, and I saw that Matthews goal counting despite it being obvious that the whistle should have been blown.

Something such as that could end up deciding who wins the division.

If Toronto gets 1-2 points because they managed to tie the game on an illegal goal, then those 1-2 points could decide who wins the division.

Whistle should have been blown and then the goal wouldn't have been scored a couple seconds later.
 
That said I really felt the league miss the opportunity to be funny here.

...it's over with; blown call, move on...who cares who they lose to in the 1st Round, be it from Florida or Ottawa...

No, after review it was determined that it was a good goal. It didn't look that way from the replays I saw, but the NHL must have views that weren't shown at least on HNIC.
