Are the Oilers ever going to take goaltending seriously. This is on Pickard. Some bad goals and inability to make a big save when needed is deflated the Oilers team confidence.

Man the oilers really should have let drai go and build a proper top 6 and some better defensemen.
Yes,let's go of leagues top goalscorer for depth.
Might do it for McDavid next year.

Trade him so we can extend S.Skinner and Bouchard

Lavoie, Perlini, Rattie... all similar type guys that need top 6 minutes to be good. If not, they aren't useful enough elsewhere. I know I've shit on him a bit but I am actually high on Savoie.lol I do think he can eke out a role in our particular top 6. I also thought that would be Dylan Holloway in that spot today.lol
One red flat with Savoie is his lack of backchecking / defensive responsibility. He cherry picks. I mean, that probably makes him a good Oiler but still....

Imagine if the team signed Matt Roy for only slightly more than the combined salaries of Arvidsson and Josh Brown.
The brown one drove me crazy. The Skinner one is not aging well and the NMC is really messing it up.

But, to your point, our pro scouts simply cannot identify a good NHL D ready to step in at 2RD. We don't need Makar or Hughes here. We need a Gudas or Larsson type. Matt Roy would be excellent too. We need a good 4 to 5M Dman who can solidify our Top 4. Not a norris candidate or generational player. This shouldnt be that hard.lol

Skinner should play the 3rd . I don't think this is on Pickard but it's been a team effort with plenty of blame to go around.

He is following the McDavid way.

I mean yea, with an offense like that.. who needs defense.. or more than 1 line that can do something useful. PP's can only get you so far (caps fans know this all too well).

This Oiler game likely ends up 6-3. Oilers will score a coupe in the third on a couple power plays. Then pull the goalie and the OV will score an empty netter for his hatty.

If he's in top 6 and flying the coop.. sure it'd make him a good Oiler. I don't think that is his current role though.lol

This stint in the NHL will raise awareness to learning how to backcheck. I would hope the coaching staff would relay that to him when he returns to the AHL...

I hate to tell you, but Skinner has been objectively worse than Pickard lately. I'm starting to wonder if Skinner should even remain as a backup. He's regressing fast.

And the one argument for keeping Skinner (the Dallas series and the three comeback wins in the Finals), is easily countered by the fact that he was atrocious before the Dallas series, and terrible in the first three Games of the Finals...especially in that critical game three where he had an .826 and the Oilers only lost by a goal.

Skinner and Pickard both provide below league average goaltending and are expendable.

He has skill and is young, he just seems like he can’t translate his game to the NHL

Plenty of other chips could be spent to upgrade defense.
Caps didn't trade Ovechkin for depth like Chychrun, Roy or Strome

Remind me again why the Oilers couldn't keep Holloway and Broberg at less than 7M while they have Arvidsson, Skinner, Kapanen and Klingberg making almost 10M in total
Jeff Jackson played hard ball with his cost controlled assets to chase magic beans

Skinner was actually looking good with Drai when he was finally promoted to the second line, but Knoblauch's juggling is actively hurting the team. I think he's overcomplicating things as a coach.

Holloway and Broberg were not proven playing portions of last season in AHL .

Arvidson and even Skinner were better top 6 option on paper for Oilers. Holloway should've been signed or matched. Broberg just wanted out.

Naw, the Oilers are just getting worked over by a much more complete team.
