That’s not how it works, but sure!

Cam Talbot is a prime example of this. Did better both before and after being in Edmonton. How a goalie performs is not linear for every time.
Agree to disagree.

That is how the entire world works. Numbers. Long term data. There are fluctuations, but it generally trends out.

No biggie.

Haha. Yeah, and I'm not sure if I put that on Skinner. He got them to game 7, where Edmonton had how many goals from McDrau?

Yeah, I guess scoring more points in a postseason than anyone not named Lemieux or Gretzky to help his team overcome a historically low save percentage from his goalie isn't good enough. Unreal. Did you watch the game? Skinner let in a weak goal and was straight-up outplayed by Bob in Game 7.

They can't afford a real goalie.

Not remotely true. Skinner is 55th in Goals Saved Above Expected. Most of the 54 goalies ahead of him are paid less. Please stop pushing this bullcrap narrative.

Oh, and Pickard is 59th.

Not sure why you brought up the entire world and working as if that's a thing. I believe you are talking about stats over time. Unfortunately, time is limited in seasons and playoff series.

Yeah, and he had a .919 that season in 73 games...hence why he finished so high in Vezina voting. Because it was largely based on an actual tangible stat.

I'm not actually trying to shit on the Leafs win. I'm just venting that our idiot management and a segment of genuinely idiotic Oiler fans are content with what we have in net. The Leafs organization has done a better job with goaltending than ours and that's why they won tonight.
Leafs sucked in net for years.Didnt actually get good goaltending till Dubass left.
Oilers would already have a cup if they had one elite goalie. They won't win four rounds this year either unless they get one.
Every Stanley Cup winner doesn't need a super star in net.....but they do need a guy capable of stealing a couple games here and there. Skinner never does that.
Skinner would be a number 3 on some NHL teams. Number 2 on a multitude of others.
He's a number 1 on very few.

But pump the breaks on McDavid leaving Edmonton because they haven't won a cup yet.
Matthews , Marner , Nylander wouldn't think of leaving T.O and Shanny can't build a team to win a round let alone four.
Ya don't see elite captains bailing on their teams for not winning a Cup.
OV didn't bail , and they won in his 13th or 14th season. Mario didn't bail. Yzerman didn't bail. Sakic didn't bail. etc etc. What makes anyone think Connor would bail on the Oil??
More like wishful thinking from some Oilers competition.

And just to add to what you said:

You got the Leafs in the lowest point of their season with key players just coming back from injury after missing weeks and still lost. Playing the Oilers I have no doubt the Leafs light up Skinner nearly every time just as they do in the regular season - it would be my preferred matchup.

The Leafs aren't that special. Even the Penguins got three by Stu on their first ten shots...actually, it may have been eight...

So Edmonton struggles against the top end of the league.

Edmonton with Skinner in net...which based on the last Twitter screenshot I posted, seems to suggest that he's the most glaring problem we have.

Skinner is a meh goalie. That's true.

God no, the commentators in this Wings-Flakes game want more teams in the playoffs.

Sure, it is only because the Sens haven't been in the playoffs for a few years. That might change this year.
Despite Sens total fail for 7 years they have still won more playoff series over past 10 years than the Leafs.

Those "battles of Ontario" were over 20 years ago.

Holy shit, I'm listening to the post-game show and it's so depressing when the Skinner topic came up... The hosts got super defensive about Skinner and reaffirmed that management will do nothing about goaltending.

btw...

Watch that first period again and tell me the Oilers played like an elite defensive team in it. Skinner isn't very good but Edmonton is paying him 2.6. You get what you pay for. Not his fault the team has been a goalie graveyard for nearly two decades.

Yeah...having more wildcard spots favors the ability to have more Canadian teams in the playoffs. So not surprising they would have that take.
As somebody who watched many just missed bubble teams, it's just not necessary. Give fans a mercy rule and go with 16 teams. not all teams need playoffs.
