Scheifele looked pretty big. Him sitting next to Clitsome made Clitsome look like a kid.

With that beard Coots is sporting the managers would ask him to keep moving (panhandler).

So what you're saying is that he even grows a better beard than Scheifele... :shakehead so Scheifele is going to rock "the Crosby" when we make it to the playoffs... ugh, what a bum!

:sarcasm:;)

I know there are allot of you guys here that dig video games, space travel, Star Trek, computers, Sci Fi, engineering etc. But I am a business dude and I love visionary entrepreneurs that create and run cool companies.....always found it fascinating. I saw the perfect overlap between our worlds. Tonight on 60 minutes they did a follow up story on Elon Musk who is a pretty amazing entrepreneur, visionary, bold dreaming, high achiever. He created Paypal and sold it for $1.8 billion then launched two amazing companies SpaceX which was the first private company to launch rockets into space (only the USA, USSR, and China went before him) and Tesla Motors that has an amazing vision for the electric automobile. Both these companies came close to total failure in 2008 but have traction now and are both on fire.

Tonight's segment on 60 minutes is worth watching because this guy is as interesting a person with as bold a vision (Colonizing Mars in his lifetime) as you will witness that has actually achieved allot already....as the founder of Google said if he was going to leave his fortune to anything it wouldn't be charity it would be Musk because he wants to change the world.

I know Holden showed me a speaker who has a vision for space exploration that can inspire (recapture the glory days of the 60's) but this just may be the modern private version of that same Dream.

If anyone knows how to provide a link it would be appreciated.

I'm with you PS.
Elon and the whole "paypal mafia" are very interesting people.

I'd highly recommend people PVR the Charlie Rose Show. I don't love him, but he gets the BEST guests consistently. He often has on people making great strides in technology, medicine, business, politics, etc. Its worth checking to see who the guests are every night in case its someone great.

100% agree I always PVR'd Rose because it is must see TV due to guest quality and interview format ....but it torments me because of the backlog of cool shows I can never get to.

Elon Musk is a visionary. I've done a huge amount reading on him. Both SpaceX and Tesla Motors are going to be keys to next generation. I know more about SpaceX personally since I am more interested in that, but that man is one ambitious amazing person.

SpaceX is getting very close to manned space flight. It's embarrassing that in the 60's the US was going to the moon, now they cannot even get into space. But SpaceX wants to change that. The greatest thing that unlike other "space" companies they do NOT rely on government handouts. This was Musk's direct contribution, he did not want to beg at the feet of the government and he is getting it done. Already they get stuff into LEO (low earth orbit) for vastly cheaper than anybody else. They are already starting to see profits AND have plans for asteriod mining in the near future.

Tesla Motors is not only building electric cars, they are building the one thing that has held electric cars back for the past 100 years. The infrastructure needed for them. Pretty soon Tesla will have recharging stations clear across the US and everywhere in major cities making electric cars practical. He took such an interesting tactic at it as well, starting with luxury cars. It was an approach never before taken. Smart.

Yup Degrasse Tyson is the dreamer trying to inspire others to get something done. Elon Musk is the one out there getting stuff done.

It's this kind of chemical-free unicorns-and-rainbow-wishes thinking that got us back into the bedbug mess in the first place! In my day, we'd gargle with DDT and eat falcon eggs for breakfast and we had the problem licked!

Lol, I wasn't talking about not using chemicals.
I was talking about using chemicals and still remaining in the domicile.
I'm thinking my approach on this is due to me having to deal with it in locations where the resident must remain during the process.

The clothes in a hot dryer is just the best thing to do outside of you bagging your clothes and quarantining them.

Musk also has a vision for what he calls the "hyperloop". I don't think he is involved in any development, but I think it's his idea. Pretty cool as well.

Speaking of Earls on Main, I thought they were tearing it down to rebuild it. Is that not happening anymore?

Oh come on now and disappoint the puck bunnies?

I've never actually been to Earls on Main. I think Earls is vastly overrated. Give me white spot in BC or sals any day.

The article in the paper was wrong. They are building the new Earls on the other side of the parking lot. Once the new building is complete they will be demolishing the current one.

Well that makes more sense - it sounded like they were going to interrupt business for a year or however long a demo and rebuild would take. Anyone know what the ROI is on this move? I thought that original WFP article said that they weren't really making it bigger...so why spend millions on this project? Maybe I just don't understand the restaurant game...

Either do I, maybe to improve parking? The current parking lot sucks. The actual building is nice.

It's obvious those three didn't mind some interaction otherwise they'd be in their own separate area rather than the lounge.

IMHO Earl's is ok. It is what it is: a franchised lounge-restaurant, attractively designed (and staffed), with acceptable, but not exceptional food on a menu that isn't too daring.

The patio and the lounge are the reasons to go to this place; good atmosphere and to see and be seen. So it's fine for that. If you sit in the restaurant area you kind of lose all that, and are just left with the food...so why bother? :) Though not bad, there are better places to eat in the city if you're not interested in atmosphere.

Identical experiences can be had at Joey's and Moxie's restaurants...

Moxie's is terrible. And their waitresses... last time I could see up her mini skirt when she bent over. I don't want to see that when I'm eating no matter how nice it is. (hey, I'm straight, but I can appreciate a woman's body)

One thing I found interesting is the sticking point (opportunity) of getting the battery affordable enough as well. The entire underside of the car is the battery and they mentioned that they are going to invest $6 billion into the battery side of the business and become the largest battery player on the planet. I was really surprised when they said their charging at their stations will be for free? They only teased us with that on the show but I would be fascinated to find out how they will monetize the recharge stations and pay the rent.

At the end of the day I like the idea of an entrepreneur being in charge of both these projects. They may crash and burn (no pun intended) but they will be leaner and faster moving and will be able to react to opportunities. There challenge will always be stock price and keeping investors happy but at least they will not get caught up in allot of red tape.

Electric cars are certainly held back by the batteries, and it will be a long time before they're practical year round in a city like ours. It comes down to density and cost.

Or a completely new technology, which is why I'm happy to see someone with vision in charge.

I'd love to see affordable, viable serious-winter electric cars hitting the streets of Winnipeg.

It's surprising that with the leaps and bounds that technology has made in the last few decades, the heart of most cars are still driven by concepts that are at least a century or two old - the internal combustion engine. I guess the real barriers to development and cost reduction are politics, gas & oil economics, and infrastructure.
