HF Board Update questions/issues thread | Page 10 | HFBoards - NHL Message Board and Forum for National Hockey League
  • Xenforo Cloud upgraded our forum to XenForo version 2.3.4. This update has created styling issues to our current templates, this is just a temporary look. We will continue to work on clearing up these issues for the next few days and restore the site to it's more familiar look, but please report any other issues you may experience so we can look into. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

HF Board Update questions/issues thread

If on mobile, the best solution will probably be to use the up and down arrows to the to the bottom of the screen. On PC probably just use page up or down (or home and end) on your keyboard.
I'm guessing this response means there's no chance of my request happening. Well poop. Guess I'll just have to get used to it. 😞

The biggest problem to still be addressed is on mobile, still a lot of quirks.

But I read that as of right now they're focused on the TDL not crashing HF, lol. So I expect we'll see changes in the next week or so.

I don't know if this has been brought up @forsbergavs32 but is there a reason why sometimes when I reply to a post, my reply is spaced properly underneath, but then other times it's right underneath the quoted post without any space in between?

Feels like when it's a longer post that I'm replying to, it's spaced properly, but if it's a one line post or something, that's when it's missing the space.

I'm sure this isn't urgent with the deadline approaching.

I think its been brought up but hasn't been messed with.

Holy cow I recommend everyone to do this! Makes navigating the boards so much cleaner!

Also I am with poster who mentioned about the "Like" system in the notification bar needs a big change. I don't need a "User reacted to your post in Confirm Trade: [COL/PHI] Kaut, 1st, 2nd, Compher, Drury for Claude Giroux (50%) thread on Trade/Rumour Forum with a Like" nonsense.
Under Preferences, there is a whole list of things you can choose to be notified about or not. Everything is set to Alert and Push by default. Uncheck to your hearts content.

Anyone else in the middle of a thread and it goes from the page and post you’re reading to the very next post being the most recent in the thread? It’s skipping like 15 pages for me in this instance.

The infrastructure behind this site just continues to fall under heavy load. All the following opinions come from an uninformed point of view - in terms of what HF has behind the scenes.

I know people want to have threads update automatically on deadline days, but clearly the site cannot handle live threads on days like today. It seems like it would make sense to me to just not live thread anything for heavy traffic days. Refreshing the page vs live thread AJAX requests are likely slightly more resource intensive, but I would reckon they are less frequent. Sure there will always be people who rapid fire F5 or refresh, but they probably exist even on live threads. Most assets that load on a full refresh will be static and come from the CDN, so the additional weight of a full refresh can't be that significant. All these unnecessary requests from everyone sitting in threads just adds to the problem and essentially is a self inflicted denial of service attack.

This! I actually like the new changes and appreciate the effort, but having a good UI means nothing if the backend can't handle it. Also makes no sense that the infrastructure is never ready for the biggest days of the year in hockey.

So @forsbergavs32 what happened today? Did the Lehkonen trade really crash the board for a couple of hours?

Not 100% sure, but might have been some work getting done at the time. Hard to say for sure though, I just know things are still continuing to be worked on and it may have just happened to hit at that time.

Edit: Sounds like that’s what happened

Really don't like the way links look like click bait ads now here with a thumbnail and a block of text. Very ugly looking.

You can change it by clicking on "Insert Link" and typing something into the text box, which is what I've been doing, but most people don't do that.

Now that TDL is passed have they started working on the fixes again?
I would still like to get back the capability to ignore a single thread.

Strange, I saw an ignore button for threads within the last week. Maybe there was a bug and it will come back

I see an Ignore button in grey to the far right in the box where the thread title is. Directly to the left of where it says how many replies there are.

Is that there or am I Haley Joel Osment?

Because f*** you, that's why. :sarcasm:

I think you have to change your theme to the ad free version? At the bottom of the page.

It was on the ad-free version.

But whatever, must've been a glitch. They're gone now. But I'm quite good at bitching and moaning, so I had to make my displeasure known.

Is there a way to remove the users online, latest posts, etc from the right side of the page? It wasn't there before but just popped up today.
For me there are three dots stacked on the top right, right under the bell notification symbol. That three dot stacked icon toggles the side-bar on/off.

Well phooey! Someone managed to add pop ups and spam ads to the dark background. Fun, fun 🤮🤢🤒🤕
There are many great ad blocking apps for PC, Mac, iphone and Android. I suggest using them on all websites. Even trustworthy websites can fall pray to accidentally hosting harmful ads.
