Welcome to Wrestlemania 42!
Pre-show
Tag titles: DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa) (champion) vs World’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas)
Two solid tag teams, we put it in a place where the crowd isn’t burned out, plus but we have a trios title match on the main show.
Result: DIY defends
DIY is attacked by supernatural faction The UnReal World in Viscera, Aleister Black and Miztic (the former Miz). They are saved by John Morrison setting up a storyline trying to reach the demonic version of his former friend the Miz.
Main show:
Our opening video package uses Linkin Park’s “Heavy is the Crown” (we’re using their modern female singer version)
This is what you asked for, heavy is the crown
Matches:
Intercontinental Title: Konuske Takeshita (champion) (with Don Callis) vs Shinsuke Nakamura
Result: Takeshita wins
They kick each other’s ass. Like a Japanese equivalent of Sheamus vs Gunther. Callis does most of the talking in the build.
Money in the Bank ladder match: Shane McMahon vs Brody King vs Braun Strowman vs Hardcore Holly vs Val Venis vs Kalisto vs Aleister Black
Brody vs Braun is a fun big man clash. Shane jumping off things is a highlight, along with Kalisto’s spots. Holly takes the biggest beating in the match and uses weapons. Venis is charismatic character and fun in the build. Black has Gargano cost him the match in revenge for the pre show beating.
Result: Brody wins and gets the push.
Trios Title tournament finals: SKP (Dolph Ziggler and the Young Bucks) vs The Bar (Sheamus, Cesaro and Finlay)
Result: SKP win inaugural trios title
We have a contrast of styles in a sleeper fun match of the card. SKP is as in Superkick Party, they are the heels here. The upgraded Bar help ground the Young Bucks into a real match.
World Heavyweight Title: Last Man Standing match - Triple H (champion) vs “Superstar” Billy Graham (with Stacy Keibler)
Our Smackdown (the B show) title match is a clash of huge egos. HHH is the babyface, but Graham calls him a fraud and that he sees he’s a power hunger scumbag underneath. He is more honest version of HHH in that he just wants fame, power and babes like Keibler. They are both at their physical apex which should be a nice draw. The feud becoming violent makes it Last Man Standing.
Result: Graham wins after HHH blinks when he has the chance to go way too far with the sledgehammer, Graham uses brass knuckles passed to him from Keibler to steal the title from Hatich.
United States title - Adam Page (champion) vs Ricky Steamboat
Result: Steamboat wins
The potential show stealing match with the redneck heel Page’s mix of brawling ability and skill with Steamboat’s technique. When Steamboat wins to represent the US it’s one of the proudest moments of his career.
Special Musical Performance
Linkin Park play the songs “Cut the Bridge” (later used for women’s match video package) and “The Emptiness Machine” (later used for the main event’s)
Women’s title Elimination Match: “The Queen” Charlotte Flair (champion) vs “The Duchess” Tessa Blanchard vs Cindermella vs Chyna
Cut the bridge we’re on
This is long term storyline involving Royalty faction with Flair and Blanchard 2nd generation alliance, along with Andrade as the hot sidepiece, and eventually involves Carmella. She’s 2nd generation but her dad was a jobber. With comedically aristocratic characters they try to smooth out her brash style and give her a full lady makeover, while after her transformation in look and personality and no longer being true to herself, Blanchard thinking she’s funny calls her Cindermella.
Charlotte is long time women’s champ, Blanchard and Cindermella tag champions, but Blanchard was always snobby and a bully to her, and there was a Raw where Ric, Tully and her made fun of her dad who appeared. Their increasing discord over time eventually leads to them losing women’s tag title, which Blanchard blows up about and blames on Cindermella. Charlotte and her #2 Blanchard also have increasing power struggle type tension.
When Chyna becomes #1 contender, a paranoid Charlotte tries to end her career with a chair. Cindermella has a conscience and tries to stop her, but Blanchard holds her back as Charlotte goes through with maiming Chyna. Cindermella is emotionally battered so she stays in the group, but Blanchard tells Charlotte after she doesn’t trust her and wants her out. When Chyna comes back, Charlotte makes a fatal four way elimination match happen where all her Royalty faction is against Chyna, thus still needing Cindermella. But their internal drama might lead to their collapse and leading up to the ppv they are increasingly close to blowing up.
Result: Chyna wins after emotional collapse of Royalty. After initially teaming on Chyna, Blanchard and Cindermella finally fight, and Cinderemella reveals her original outfit under the fancy clothes. But before the now Carmella can eliminate her, Charlotte eliminates Carmella to deny the fairy tale win, and she beats on her with Blanchard after to cement her exit from the group. After teaming together on Chyna, Blanchard shocks Charlotte by rolling her up, guaranteeing a new champion. When it’s Blanchard vs Chyna, the true villain of the group Blanchard coming perilously close to victory for the crowd, Carmella helps Chyna win while Charlotte refuses to help Blanchard. Chyna and Carmella celebrate together.
WWE title Hell in a Cell - Roman Reigns (champion) vs Jon Moxley (with Renee Moxley)
I just wanted to be part of something
This storyline starts with the shocking return of Moxley to WWE after 6 years in the rival company (not literal AEW, but essentially AEW) creating great moment when he confronts Reigns and challenges him to Hell in a Cell at Wrestlemania. He is the resentful black sheep and Reigns is the golden child, including a literal dinner table argument scene. Moxley blames Reigns for causing his alcohol issues and thinks he didn’t fight for him to stay in WWE. He comes with receipts and plays phone call from 6 years ago, where WWE asks Reigns if he wants Moxley on Raw again with him to recharge him and get his merchandise sales up again, and Reigns says he’s done with the Shield and specifically asks for Moxley to not be on his show. Reigns also buries Moxley in the call saying that he has drinking issues.
So, now that we know why Moxley hates Reigns so much and it looks kind of justified, but Reigns says that Moxley is still making excuses for his own failures, losing matches and crowd support at the time, and then failing to carry his own company, and is back to ride his coattails again. It then gets spicer when during an in ring interview with Renee Paquette, also invited back, she maces Reigns and allows Moxley to attack him. Now going by Renee Moxley in later promos then agrees with everything Jon is saying about how his issues are all Reigns fault, and saying "family comes first". When Reigns' wife confronts her, she gives her a Dirty Deeds, she is stretchered out which absolutely enrages the family driven Reigns as he thinks Jon set it all up. Jon argues with Renee as he says she went too far, leading to a “rift”, which he blames on Reigns. But later when Renee comes back and maces Reigns again, it’s revealed they never had a rift and they did set up together the attack on Reigns wife. With the Moxleys crossing the line and in Reigns head, it sets the stage for a brutal Hell in a Cell.
Result: Despite Moxley being in his violent heaven, Reigns puts him down and defends.
