I am not arguing that Pegula wasn't responsible for the jumbotron... he is responsible for everything inside the building... But you stated that it was obligated to be done. It wasn't.. Pegula didn't have to replace it.

What hoops am I jumping thru? The actual Erie County Executive ..who also gets paid by Erie County..flat out stated that the County is responsible for the shell of the arena. Case closed.

Now the reasons the Pegulas decided to take on the roof? Idk.. I would venture to guess it wasn't out of the goodness of their hearts. I am assuming they got more money from the county for the Bills stadium or something like that..but it is clear as day they were not contractually obligated to in terms of the lease.

He said that the county owns the shell of the arena and the city owns the land. He didn't say that the county was required to fix it.

The county gave no money for the roof or scoreboard.

Poloncarz said that Erie County owns the shell of KeyBank Center, the City of Buffalo owns the land on which it stands and the Sabres are responsible for the upkeep of the building. He confirmed previous media reports that the Pegulas, who own the Sabres, have said they would foot the bill for renovating the arena’s roof and said that taxpayers would not be on the hook for those upgrades.

I mean I don't know what to tell you..it is right there on video... His exact words are "the team is responsible for the upkeep INSIDE the building."

To be fair, he did. For multiple years.

The Pegulas have probably lost more in operating expenses of this team then they spent on purchasing this team.

The problem is, the only way to fix what ails the team is spending. Spending on the front office to get experienced people. The training staff. The facilities.

The thing that is frustrating is the Bills are a model franchise and do all these things. Yet the Sabres are an embarrassment. And I think its mostly because the Bills are self sustaining and the Sabres are bleeding cash like a stuck pig and the fixes have to come directly out of the Pegula family coffers.
Sure, they spent along with the league for some years. I guess they deserve credit for that? Their paper net worth has also doubled to $7B+ since they've owned the team.

My point stands - Boomers I know who are worth a couple million bucks blow 10-20 grand on gas for the boat every summer. They buy gear, supplies, travel for their hobbies. He bought a toy, he should spend to equip the toy to get enjoyment out of it.

The fact that his toy can profit if operated properly is a bonus. But maybe the only guys who get rich enough to buy a franchise are too neurotic and myopic about the bottom line to ever take it out of the packaging and play with it.

The sports world needs more owners like Mark Cuban.

All good points...but i think when Pegula bought the team it was his toy... after years of playing with it ..seems he has grown bored of it and is now just one of those things sitting in his garage..gaining value for later down the road for either himself or his children.

I think he is just disinterested and hope he hands it off to either his daughter or sells

Yeah I don't think you're wrong. It's just lame.

I picture him like a Pharaoh being entombed with a gold plated fully staffed pro scouting department and a roster to the cap.

Can't take it with ya, Terry.
