I remain convinced of only one thing - The only way forward is for Terry to sell.
His kids need to really tell him to distance himself from this pet project of his, and spend time with the family and enjoy life. Every other team he's distanced from is doing well. They don't need to sell the team, they just need to change the structure of the team and get the owner to stop playing fantasy owner.

At this point, is it reasonable to believe that the clanishly insular community that is the hockey world would believe Pegula is no longer involved if there is only a restructuring? They need someone new like Vinnik or Viola, not nepo-babies.

The other problem here is there is a side hustle of season/game tickets being sold on the secondary market to hockey fans from Southern Ontario. So dwindling attendance is likely not going to happen and push changes. I wonder if the league knows about/thinks about that ? Ultimately it helps keep a loser franchise in business for 20 years plus. Things might change with the value if the Looney continues dropping but does not seem to be yet.

this is so very true. It can't happen soon enough. as it is, it's going to take a miracle for this franchise to ever be what it once was; all due to a rich asshole that has no business running a sports team.

I’m actually hoping between the Bills stadium cost overruns and dismal Sabres revenue this guy gets squeezed hard during the next economic downturn and is forced to liquidate assets to avoid insolvency. Heck, I hope he goes bankrupt too.

Harsh but fair. But also unlikely.

The NFL minority stake he just sold at least gets some cash in the door, unfortunately. He may still want to cut bait with the Sabres, as they are clearly a money pit (of his own creation), but he apparently wants to leave it to one of his kids that he doesnt like (the one from the first marriage). It's the equivalent of inheriting a bunch of vintage porcelain dolls from your grandmother. They had some apparent value to her, but now you have to find some way of dealing with a bunch of creepy dolls, their lifeless eyes staring blankly into your soul.

Honestly I think he's looking to sell the team or relocate the team. Didn't he threaten to move the Bills to Austin if the State didn't help fund the new stadium?

Him not adding much to the roster construction or adding dollars to the roster would make sense if he intends on selling the team essentially leaving it in the hands of the new owner.

He is currently on the hook for cost overruns on the throwball stadium in one of the most horribly corrupt states in the union (tldr version: the cost overruns are going to be freaking mental).

Pegula is getting 850 million from taxpayers, plus around 1 billion for selling a minority share in the team (around 20%). He's also using the NFL stadium loan program. Where teams can borrow up to 300mil as long as they match whatever they borrow.

So he only needs to put up 150 to 300mil of his own money to end up with 2.15 to 2.45 billion towards the stadium with all these sources. What a steal that is

He also has 2-3 billion in assets outside of the Bills/Sabres he could sell to raise money if need be. Plus whatever money he has under his pillow

That sounds like Sabre fans

Just like the Florida Panth... wait oh shit; maybe the Edmont... oh shit. This meme manifests humanities' phenomenally poor ability to grasp variance.
The Panthers make the exact opposite point you are making as they were bought by Viola in 2013 from a group of clowns who made them a laughingstock franchise and he built them into a powerhouse. Edmonton was handed the greatest player to ever put on a pair of skates and except for last season have badly underachieved because their owner is incompetent. Every single team that is awful for years has the common denominator of terrible/incompetent ownership (see: Chicago White Sox, New York Jets, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Pirates ect).

I still don't know if Lance has a close source within the organization..

The man does an amazing job covering the team but I can't think of a time he broke anything.

A lot of his takes seem to be speculation.

The Panthers were terrible until suddenly they weren't. While Viola owned them I might add. These teams are bad for a number of reasons structural and random.

NYJ (and MIA) have both made the incredibly bad decisions to play in the same Division as 2 of the best QBS for 20 years straight. No amount of ownership was going to move Brady out of NE until he got old.

The Bills have historically been awful, There was a sliver the 60s, most of the 90s, and very recently they were good. Ownership made no difference.

I'll grant you there are some exceptions to this, particularly prior to the establishment of salary caps where some teams just weren't going to get there. It's a lazy false truism to think Ownership is what makes the majority of difference in these operations.

You are smarting and clevering in an attempt to deny something that is clearly and painfully obvious. A team with competent ownership isn't missing the playoffs 14 seasons in a row, it happens to teams owned by guys who do things like make player moves based on a guy's video game rating.

That's only true because you're tautologically begging your question.
