Was LaFontaine okay? I just wasn't following Buffalo at the time. My understanding is that he hired Murray and then disagreed with him. Maybe he said something wrong, Idk.

Rumors are swirling the Sabres forced LaFontaine out in some sort of power struggle. Black was adamant LaFontaine, who wasn’t involved in Friday’s blockbuster Ryan Miller-Steve Ott trade, wasn’t fired from the position Sabres owner Terry Pegula created for him.

“Pat LaFontaine resigned,” said Black, who characterized Pegula as “disappointed.”

Imagine being a Sabre 10 games deep into a losing streak, with a playoff spot almost an impossibility, and the owner comes into your room and apparently says "We believe in you, your coaching staff, and management, and we're staying the course. No charges

I mean the reports are that the rangers players are ready to have a coup because Drury threatened to trade guys while they struggle

It's a fine line

I'm not sure I've ever seen a better example of "this meeting could have been an email"
It was a reactionary move given all the talk that Terry was checked out on the Sabres, I bet.

Just like the Adams press conference was a reaction to the local media wanting to talk to him as the fans cried for accountability from the front office for the team's slide in the standings.

And just like the Adams press conference, this meeting will not make any fans that were upset by the lack of action feel any better.

Only 32 cities in the world with a team playing in the NHL. Maybe we snuck in in thanks to the boomer generation because the economy was good enough in Buffalo back in the day. We would never get this now if it were a new option.

Let's just enjoy the ride, everything will be fine. Even if they lose 15 in a row.

We get to watch an NHL game today with a team from Buffalo. I will always look forward to that. Just my opinion.

Every player must have a threshold beyond which pride and loyalty turns to despair. I'd be thinking "Is he serious? Get me tf out of this loony bin."
I think Terry should sell, or at the very least remove himself from having any say in on-ice personnel matters. I think Adams should be fired.

BUT

What else is Terry going to say? I mean.....saying something like "Get your head out of your asses or else there will be major changes" would do nothing but get this bunch FURTHER in their collective heads than they already are. Look at what happened when Trotz tried that approach to a veteran-laden Nashville squad......nothing happened at all. They remain less than the sum of their parts.

I think he HAD to say "We believe in you. Don't look for outside help. You got this."........even if he didn't really mean it.

He shouldn't have said anything at all, just fired Adams and appointed an experienced GM/POHO, and like you said, step away, this stubbornness only makes things worse.

Maybe they're all comforted and inspired by his show of support. Who knows? We might get an inkling tonight and in the next few games.

If I had been performing 10-losses-in-a-row-bad and my boss gave me a pat on the head and told me everything is okay, I'd be embarrassed.

Terry missed a perfect opportunity to stfu.

Kim is the reason that Pat LaFontaine dipped out.

I don't know if she was on the ball and making all the right decisions.
I didn’t mean to imply she was, but she at least seemed to have a vision and the will to pursue it.

Given that she was involved in all sorts of drama with the Sabres, I still don't know if she had a vision that is much different than what Terry is pursuing today.
I don’t think Terry has one other than financial viability. Kim definitely was on that train too re: the ridiculous presentation but I’ve also heard that she had general expectations for competence in a way that he doesn’t seem to

It’s insane that he flew out there just to say “no worries” in person
Yep.

This has to be the most out of touch thing an ownership/management group has ever done?

"You've lost 10 in a row. I flew all the way from Boca to this frozen French-Canadian wasteland to tell you guys in person, in the lockeroom, that rather than attempt to fill the gaping holes on this roster among the top 6 forwards or top 4 defensemen, no changes will be coming. We believe in you

If there was a single player on this roster with any hope left before this meeting, there certainly isn't now.

Are we supposed to be fooled into thinking that these players are so simple and fragile that they couldnt win in a month, and a visit by the socially awkward owner suddenly opened their eyes to how to play hockey?
It's not about "how to play hockey". Terry said what he said BECAUSE the room is too fragile.......the hope is that it gets the players out of their own heads and back to "just playing" hockey.

Let's not sully our condemnation of Terry with aspersions against the culture that gifted poutine to the world.

I sense a new Hallmark/Lifetime movie plot in the making.
