Josh Allen is buying 25% with options up to 49% of the team and putting a POHO in charge. He's going to be negotiating a new contract this offseason supposedly and he has said he wants a Sabres Stanley Cup Parade so who knows; maybe Josh truly can save the city
Imagine?

I wouldn't whistle past the graveyard on that.

That situation was a long time ago. Some of the old guard of the nhl is gone. The downtown arena was just 5-6 years old, now it's the worst facility in the league. Franchises are worth a billion dollars now. Golisano landed them at much less than $92 million. The lease is up in 2 short years.

The Sabres have not been relevant as long as many people can remember. Fans aren't supportive anymore. There wouldn't be that much pushback and outcry outside Buffalo if they were relocated.

It's amazing the damage this owner has done to this franchise. Mind boggling

And unlike the Bills, I don’t think the Sabres were in much real danger of leaving Buffalo when Pegula bought them.

When he bought the team we were the 4th highest P% ever, 99% capacity on average, and one of the best TV markets in the NHL.

Now we are just a good TV market.

There was rumor a few years back that there was a buying group to keep the team here but they didn’t reach Terry’s price point.

If the Sabres leave Buffalo it will be 100% because of Terry Pegula. Not the city, or its fans, or the (lack of ) money here. It will 100% be because Terry is an inept leader and destroyed the team.

I still can’t believe he wasn’t fired for that.

Agents don’t live in a single sport background. I’m certain that Beane rolled his eyes at that. While it likely won’t result in the Bills missing out on FA, it’s certainly a thorn in their side.

I think the best we can expect is it being him asking the team what they want/need to right the ship, which would likely be an empty gesture like the press conference

This is sort of a fear of mine.

Is he meeting with the team alone? With Adams? Ruff? Forton?

Who is and isn’t in the room is almost more important than Terry himself. Terry leaning into Adams and the brother-in-law of his oil and gas partner, to rally against a well respected coach like Ruff would probably be the lowest low of Buffalo sports

Honestly, getting privileged access to invest in a major professional sports team would be a great contract perk. It’s not like anybody can just buy shares in a sports team, and they have appreciated in value faster than anything else you could invest in.

It has occurred to me that there's a greater than 0% chance that the incompetence in this organization is intentional weaponized incompetence, with the explicit goal of relocation.

Run the franchise into the ground for 16 straight years, which undermines the fan base and makes the franchise financially unsustainable in the current location/market. Just in time to coincide with the lease being up....

It makes more sense than being this bad, for this long, by accident.

Unless it's to announce major changes in leadership of this hockey club, his meeting with the team is just the same old, same old. More meddling with something he clearly knows nothing about.

I hope, but have no confidence he will, that this meeting will be to do just that and then publicly in front of a podium make the same announcement and preface it with an apology to the fans of this team

Nothing is going to come of this.

How long until they are in Houston or Atlanta?
There's a reason the only relocations since the murder of the Whalers in 1997 were because teams literally had no place to play, billion$ and billion$ in fact. It would be the same as taking over a billion dollars in expansion fees, throwing it in a pile and setting it ablaze.

Aren't you just hurting your investment? There will always be a buyer whenever you want to sell.

Will fix everything
Terry isn't selling in this hypothetical. He's moving the team.

That would be a dumb things considering the investments he's made in downtown Buffalo. I also don't think he legally can. Perhaps if he transfers ownership to a different entity he could. But it was one of the conditions of the sale from the Golisano's is he couldn't move it nor could it sell it to someone who would move it.

It's a hypothetical. I didn't say it was super realistic. But the investments made in downtown buffalo are a pittance in the grand scheme of his wealth.

As far as whether or not he "legally can move the team"... have you ever known the US legal system to constrain a Billionaire from doing what they wanted? If he wants it bad enough, he can get it done.

Bills fans will never give up the Bills, even if they hate the owner.

I’m not sure Pegula has the stomach to become a public villain like that though.
If Mike Clown purchased the Sabres and moved them to Cincy I would take every piece of Bengals paraphernalia I own, put it in a pile, douse it in petrol and toss a match on it.

Yeah, at this point it's been made blatantly clear beyond a shadow of a doubt. Terry Pegula will not make this team into a serious contender. If, and that's a massive if that happens it'll only be through dumb luck. I'm done, no support for this team under his leadership, at all, and any interaction with them through social media will be to demand he sell the team. That's it.

Saying Pegula got " lucky" with the Bills, you're letting him off the hook with the Sabres. No multi billionaire is "lucky".
The Sabres suck because he bought them solely to get the inside track to buy the Bills, who are an elite sports franchise now.
Adams is his hatchet man, and is doing a great job in Pegula's eyes.
