All fair points on Shep and Clay. But this season will have to play out. We don’t need a regular NHL goalie for a couple of years, but Clay will likely get his shot when injury occurs. Clay will likely get more games and he will be the man next year.

for now, let it play out. Shep has given us two Calder Cups. Let’s just appreciate that a bit. Clay’s time will come.
This x 1000000. Posters need to get off his damn back, IMO.

I mean, WTF does everyone expect? He’s the AHL version of MAF.

Leave the man alone!!!

Someone posts these visuals on Reddit each week and I like looking at them to see how we're doing relative to the other teams. Things have been pretty good so far. And it looks like the Islanders are aiming for a historic worse season ever, lol

Two of your breakout players this year in Mikey and Protas won the Cup two years ago. Alzner and Carlson were on Hershey's last back to back champs. I can't really think of a Caps prospect who suffered from Hershey going for it every year. I don't think Washington's had a "legit" goalie prospect in Hershey since Vanecek and Samsonov, and all of Neuvirth, Holtby, Grubauer got their chance as "the guy" before graduating to the NHL (Varlamov too, but he wasn't in the AHL long). And with your tandem under contract for the next three years at least, I don't think there's any grand rush to find the next guy.

Given that Washington's been a contender for most of the affiliation, I think Hershey's done a pretty good job of development for the Caps.

Also I think you're all right that I'm being a little hyper critical of Shep. Clay was indeed pretty bad at the start of the year. I do genuinely believe he's put up better outings than Shep overall recently. However, both goalies have been pretty incapable of stringing together two consecutive strong games this year. Let's hope that either one of them is able to take the bull by the horns come playoff time.
