Prospect Info: Hershey Bears/South Carolina Stingrays 2023-24 Seasons | Hershey 12x (and Defending) Champions Edition

All fair points on Shep and Clay. But this season will have to play out. We don’t need a regular NHL goalie for a couple of years, but Clay will likely get his shot when injury occurs. Clay will likely get more games and he will be the man next year.

for now, let it play out. Shep has given us two Calder Cups. Let’s just appreciate that a bit. Clay’s time will come.
This x 1000000. Posters need to get off his damn back, IMO.

I mean, WTF does everyone expect? He’s the AHL version of MAF.

Leave the man alone!!!

Someone posts these visuals on Reddit each week and I like looking at them to see how we're doing relative to the other teams. Things have been pretty good so far. And it looks like the Islanders are aiming for a historic worse season ever, lol

Two of your breakout players this year in Mikey and Protas won the Cup two years ago. Alzner and Carlson were on Hershey's last back to back champs. I can't really think of a Caps prospect who suffered from Hershey going for it every year. I don't think Washington's had a "legit" goalie prospect in Hershey since Vanecek and Samsonov, and all of Neuvirth, Holtby, Grubauer got their chance as "the guy" before graduating to the NHL (Varlamov too, but he wasn't in the AHL long). And with your tandem under contract for the next three years at least, I don't think there's any grand rush to find the next guy.

Given that Washington's been a contender for most of the affiliation, I think Hershey's done a pretty good job of development for the Caps.

Also I think you're all right that I'm being a little hyper critical of Shep. Clay was indeed pretty bad at the start of the year. I do genuinely believe he's put up better outings than Shep overall recently. However, both goalies have been pretty incapable of stringing together two consecutive strong games this year. Let's hope that either one of them is able to take the bull by the horns come playoff time.

Was at the game last night. The first period was pretty even but after that Hershey looked *way* more disciplined and structured than the Wolves, who seemed disheartened after an early goal was waived off. (Player caught the puck and threw it in the net with his hand, lol)

Priskie took a coupla penalties. Miro, Iorio and Lapierre were pretty quiet but looked OK. Miro is a big guy! Easier to see in person. He was definitely out there waiting for breakout passes. Trineyev had a goal and an assist, looked good.

Bears are officially in the 2025 Calder Cup playoffs! Also, Smallman has been really good for Bears especially with Sgarbossa and others out. Hope we can get a bit healthier for the playoffs.

Based on GMCP comments at TDL, Sgarbossa should be back in the next week or two. Haven’t heard anything about Ness. But he is really missed. Hunt relegated to a lot of Nacho duty!

Noticed that Lappy quietly has 20 pts in 23 games…
I mentioned it earlier, but Nelson said after Lapi's first game of the year with Hershey that he expected him to take a little bit of time to get used to regular top 6 minutes after playing so little for so long. He's looked good the whole time he's been down, even when he wasn't scoring.

Bears won 4-2 last night in Springfield, but the game wasnt as close as the score might indicate. Hershey nearly doubled up the Thunderbirds in shots.

Hershey controlled play most of the game. Colten Ellis was a brick wall the last time these two teams played too. Strome and Bogey finally broke through about halfway through the second. Things unraveled briefly about halfway through the third. Miro hauled a man down on a breakaway and Springfield scored on the ensuing powerplay. Twenty seconds later, Lapierre goes off for boarding, then Sutter takes another goal-saving penalty seven seconds after that. Springfield scored pretty fast into the 5-on-3, to tie the game but Hershey killed off the remaining penalty time. Bear scored the go ahead goal about three minutes after Springfield tied it, and Dube added an empty netter to seal the deal.

Hershey swept the season series with the Tbirds 4-0. They usually don't have too much trouble with them in recent years. Some balanced production last night. Every single Bears skater was a plus except for Hudson Thornton in his first game and Luke Philp (both even). Shep with the win, stopping 18/20. Not the most mind boggling statline but given that both were powerplay goals and one was 5-on-3 I can cut him some slack. He did what was needed, though Ellis was the much busier goalie.

Trineyev and Rybi have had a really good stretch here on this road trip. Bear was great as always. I hope he ends up back in the NHL next year. I think he's more than deserving
