I guess they feel Voronkov does not have the skating for 3v3
That’s fine until you consistently throw a guy like Sillinger out there. While also throwing traditional “bottom 6” players and a guy like Olivier out there also. I don’t get it. Yes, Sillinger did win a couple important faceoffs.

Throw Voronkov out there with a quick guy like Fantill/Marchenko and there’s no problem. His ability to essentially force 2 guys to defend on him would make a very dangerous OT/3 on 3 player.

How does a player go missing for over a month and the team offers no explanation nor the timeline for the return ?

Usually when they have a concussion.

So Voronkov didn’t play in OT at all and ZAR did

Voronkov at half speed is possibly faster than our coaching staff realizes. He takes one step with that reach he can cover a lot of ice. That or, you know, there's much more of a late game conditioning issue than we realize. But I personally think he's been good throughout lately.

Mateychuk has not been what I expected. He's winning puck battles and looks in control on D almost all the time. His offense looks pretty weak tho imo. Not a tight stickhandler and his shot looks quite weak

His shot has never been a strength, have people expected that? He can get it through though so netfront guys like Voronkov can work with it. He's playing semi conservative from his normal game, obviously trying to buy in and not make mistakes until he's established

I guess it just looks worse than I thought but it’s a small sample. He was getting them thru in Cleveland so hopefully we he gains more confidence on offense he’ll find some lanes to shoot

He can get them through, that's never been an issue. The only thing he's behind on right now is activating, he's clearly holding back in the regard to maintain an NHL job. When's he's comfortable he'll look like a Werenski lite

Mateychuk has dedicated large portions of his offseason training for improving his shot, and it has improved remarkably imo. Nowadays he can snap the puck hard and accurately from the point, but the limitation is that unlike Werenski he still can't do it when there isn't much time and space for it.

Fortunately he sees the ice adeptly for deflection plays whenever there's a stick blade open in the lane but even in those plays the execution at NHL level isn't consistent yet because puck handling technique is still lacking, he can't change shooting angles quickly if he has to do it from a full stop, and the windup posture he usually has makes him a bit too predictable for shot blockers.

All of those things can be improved however and he seems very determined to work on his weaker areas so I try not to worry about it that much.

We need to get Marchenko and Voronkov under long term contracts ASAP while their price is still reasonable.
I'm afraid that ship has sailed. A deal similar to Owen Tippett's 8x$6.2M wouldn't look too bad right now, would it? Some here would've liked more term on his latest contract, I wonder if that type of offer was ever on the table in negotiations.

For health reasons (sleeping regime) I won't be able to watch the games until at least the end of January, my doctor has strongly warned me about it. However, I am satisfied with today's result, I hope we will continue. Just need to add more lines, the first one won't last forever.

I think it was last season when I said we should lock him up to a 6x6 as soon as possible and people were like "woah woah woah, let's wait a little while longer before signing him long term"

Another season of this play and we won't be able to get him for anything under 8 or 9.

I just finished watching my recording of last nights game. Unfortunately it ceased recording with 5 minutes left in regulation so I was glad to see the SO highlights posted here.

The top line is carrying the offense. While some have said to break it up and spread the offense, I don’t think that’d be a net gain. Voronkov plays his best with Marchenko.

This team needs Chinakov (and Jenner) badly. Im very concerned about Chinakov’s durability which is hindering his ability to be a regular contributor.

While Fantilli and KJ together hasn’t yielded success, it may be time to try them again as they have the most offensive skill outside the first line trio.

That or, you know, there's much more of a late game conditioning issue than we realize.

We are in year 2 of hearing about his conditioning so there is obviously something there. Part of me wonders if it is something in practice where he is sucking wind a lot, so people are afraid to put him in situations where he could be stuck on the ice unable to change. Our worst period seems to be period 2 (with the long change) and this team obviously doesn’t trust him in OT (with the long change), so I don’t know. Maybe we just accept they are doing what they can to get the most out of him and disguise his weakness.
