I highly doubt they will let Hank walk away without some heavy negotiation and/or upper management being fired.

I think we should consider that, while Hank is probably a lot more eloquent in English than a lot of us Brooklyn-born knuckleheads on this board, English is still not his first language.

He just may not have understood we would all go so crazy dissecting what he meant by using a different 'tense' than we were expecting. For anyone who has learned a foreign language, the 'tense' thing tends to be the most difficult part to learn.

Was thinking the exact same thing, though the Devils fans hopes are resting upon getting Bernier out of LA.

Perosnally I dont give Hank a dime over 8mil/year. Even at that it would be a long thought process before I offered it up. I just think in todays NHL you can be successful without your goalie being your best player.

Yes, but this is the Rangers we're talking about.

Would we be anywhere near a playoff spot this year, much less beating the Caps if it wasn't for Lundqvist? No.

If Hank leaves, firstly the Rangers style would have to change, they can no longer depend on Hank to bail them out night in, night out. Either a more defensively tight game, which would bring upon a DZ trade IMO. Or secondly, a more offensive game, outgun your opponents. However, this change of style would only happen if/when Torts leave. No way is he deviating career long method.

Lastly, no way will Torts stay if Lundqvist leaves, it's not possible. If it comes down to Hank/Torts, everyone and their mother knows the choice there.

I am really starting to feel bad for Hank. He doesn't deserve this.

He is competing in the playoffs with the Rangers

Last year he was in the ECF and this year the ECSF. It is not like he is on a last place team here.

He is in a fairly good spot here.

Agreed, but these teams are usually above average or elite offensively.

Under Sather, the Rangers haven't had a team that is top 10 in goals per game since 2000-01. Constructing a team that is competent offensively, let alone above average, has been a struggle for the organization. We will have more cap space to spend on forwards if Lundqvist is gone, but if the poor decision-making continues in regards to free agent signings, it will not help much. If the post-Lundqvist era is to begin after next season, Sather cannot be the one in charge.

I don't know, I just don't understand the pity for him. He's playing in one of the best cities in the world, where everyone loves him. He's almost consistently been making the playoffs during his career, and the Ranger future doesn't look that much of a ****show that everyone is predicting. Heck, if I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong) the 1992-1993 season Rangers had huge expectations as well, only to miss the playoffs, and look what happen the year after?

How much of that is predicated on the fact that those teams know their goaltending will not be there to bail them out all the time though. Its a catch 22. The Rangers know they have Hank and how good he can be. He drags them to the playoffs, but if you dont have him you are forced to open the game up and go for it on the offensive side, imo. We have some guys here who could thrive in a more offensive style. Torts wont change the way he does things, that much is obvious. You have a goalie only eating up 3/3.5m/year that gives you more room to manuever aroudn the Cap for more explosive and dynamic forwards.

John Starks shot 1 for 19 in game seven

I'll jump on the bandwagon...

Kurt Coabin killed himself

My head just exploded.

Seriously? Another "Aw, poor Hank" post? You've gotta be kidding me. The dude wants a boatload of cash and has never taken a dime less than he thought he was worth to help the team.

I'll say "poor Hank" if he gives the team a favorable deal instead of wanting market value. Show a bit of loyalty and I'll weep for him, too.

The bottom line really is that making the $ Brooks reported and wanting to win a Cup are diametrically opposed concepts in a cap league.

He'll have to pick one or the other.

Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty.

I wouldnt be surprised at all if part of his negotiation is a frank discussion with Rangers management about the plans going forward. And, in all honesty, what can Glen Sather sell him on? "We're going to buy out the guy that was supposed to be your #1 center, but Derek Stepan could be one, and if not, we'll find another one." Thrilling.

And yes, the Rangers went to the conference finals last season and the 2nd round this year......with Lundqvist playing like the best goaltender in the world. Is there a definitive improvement plan? Because even with those results, this sure does look like a team with major roster, coaching, and managerial issues.

I sincerely hope he gives the team a bit of a break and shows a bit of loyalty. Especially after he was slightly overpaid on the last contract when it was signed. I won't kill the dude if he cares more about money. But I certainly won't feel sorry for him if that's the case.

...not to mention he still has one more year left at the $6.5 million per he's been making the last five years. The word 'poor' should never be mentioned in the same sentence as Hank.

In all honesty, if Hank had the nerve (yes, the nerve) to ask for 10M? Sather should ask him with a straight face, "Is your name Sidney Crosby? No? OK, so your high end is now only 8.7M at the very max."

Why should anyone on this team be paid more than Lundqvist? As long as he's making Nash money or even a cent less, he is giving us a discount.

Just asking for opinion, but hypothetically, wold you guys have Crosby at 10m or Hank at 10m?

Yeah I don't get the whole Hank Pity Party either

I hate Crosby but wouldnt even think twice in saying him. Much more dynamic, imo. He makes everyone around him better instantly. The question there is do you value otherworldly goal tending or an elite play-maker. I go for the latter as it would have a larger impact on the success of a team, imo.
