Player Discussion Henri Jokiharju

Disgree, he easily was more consistent than Carlo. Quiet efficiancy.
Perhaps I have poor taste due to the season and seeing him on the PP but at 6' another "soft and steady" type seems to beg for forechecks such as Florida/Carolina to force issues in the playoffs. Perhaps this season the coaches will relearn to coach a defensive system and everything including goaltending resolves itself.

Is that saying much? He would be an ideal 3rd pair defenseman perhaps but is that the need? If the salary is very low perhaps.
I'd say the pairing with Zadorov worked because they are complimentary pieces with different skills and different flaws. Jokiharju is a puck mover and when paired this allowed Zadorov to be more of a defensive rock and rather than skating the puck up the ice he passed over to Jokiharju and he moved it up or passed it up to a forward. Similarly Jokiharju is weak in his own net area and Zadorov took care of the slot.

Sure, I'd love to have better than Jokiharju, but you only have so much money and so many guys. Zadorov-Jokiharju as the second pairing is decent.

The issue is they already have a well paid 3rd pair right sider in Peeke. Why have two of those? Would rather they allocate $6M to a true 2nd pair right sider than $4M to another 3rd pair one.

You know Don Sweeney well enough that you don’t need to ask this question.

Why have a dollar when a buck’ll getcha a couple o’ quarters?

The problem is, there aren't any "true" second pair right siders that will sign for $6m. Gavrikov is expected to sign for $7.6m, Ekblad $8m. Is Fabbro a "true" second pair guy? I like him, but he was waived this year. I see him on a similar level to Jokiharju.

Fwiw, I liked what Joker did, and I liked how he fit with Zadorov. He was +7 in 18 games on a sinking ship playing top minutes against top lines. I also like that he's only 25.

Plus, this team needs offense. They need to spend their money on forwards/scoring.

I like him as the third pairing RD, moreso than Peeke, who they should try and move and find some cheaper veteran help coming off the bench.

Bruins need another top 4 dman or else it won't really matter who they bring in to help the forwards.

You also can't fix every problem this offseason, he adequately solves one hole, and if for the right price can move down a pair the following year when we should be actually looking to compete. If not he should be a good piece to move for value when you sign/trade/develop a better player for his spot.

Sure you'd love someone better with his skillset, but you can do a lot worse than a Zadorov/Joki 2nd pair.

This is where I'm at. He's already an option, he seemed to fit well with Zadorov (and Zadorov will be here for quite a while), presumably wants to be here, and the team needs forward/scoring help more than D help to get back in it. Assuming the contract is reasonable (and I think he'd take term over money) I sign him and he can drop down later if Lohrei ever gets it together or we add someone else later.

3 years, $3.5M AAV?
Is this a rumor?

It could be worse or better depending on what he is during a full season in Boston. As a 3rd pair talent or worse, not ideal. Should he truly settle in as an adequate 2nd pair Carlo replacement then that would be a bargain... but Sweeney also masterminded the Mike Reilly trade and contract.

I mean is question his motives if he wants to sign with Boston. I mean he just got out of purgatory on the Sabres only to end up on a team that had the worst record in the NHL post trade deadline. So does he really want to win or is it the money and security he cares most about.

Not a bad player but curious what numbers he is truly looking for
