HENKE down on the team ?

Well yeah I mean sub-par for Hank is still a level most goalies will never reach. But I can't remember the last time he really stole a game we had no business winning, something he used to do with frightening regularity.

We also managed to score a goal in those games. 2:1 lead in the third and there has been a higher chance of the other team scoring an ENG than us getting that tying goal.

He's clearly frustrated with this stupid "system." He knows that if he lets in 2 or more goals, it's practically a death sentence for the team. I can't imagine how hard it must be mentally to know that you HAVE to be the best player out there every single night, if you're not, your team has no show at winning. Also, let's ease it with the shot blocking ****. Many goalies have said that they prefer to see the puck. How many times this season have goals gone in because:
a. His own man blocked his vision
b. His own man deflected the shot in.
c. Because of the team's inability to clear the front of the net.
I'd attribute about 90% of GA to these 3 things. He's the biggest NY'er there is on this team, and I don't think I could ever imagine him leaving.

Call me crazy, but it sure doesn't feel like the Rangers are blocking nearly as many shots this year as last season.

I will say the D are very soft around the crease. That's prime real estate right there, the guys need to protect it and let everyone know if you're standing there, you'll be punished.

While I don't believe Lundqvist will ask for a trade or want to be moved, you can never say never. If his heart truly is in New York...well, there are 3 teams in the area, not just one. And there are some guys who will jump ship at the end of their careers to get a good shot at a ring. Out of the 3 teams in NY, the Rangers still look like the safest best for that, but who knows which team will be the powerhouse in 2-3 years. Things change quickly nowadays.

It's visibly and audibly obvious that Henke's level of frustration is growing by the day . Is thi indicative of the superstar back bone of the team growing weary of mis management of assets , coaching and play in front of him ? HENKE has always been an intense competitor , but lately as his level of play has clearly risen the number of goals deflecting in and trickling past him and the lack of scoring clearly has his " SWEDISH UP " . He has made some harsh comments after games basically calling out the team and looks to have even pointed to his defensemen angrily after more failed crease clearing and loose pucks being gotten to or own goal deflections of his own D Men " PACKED " down low in front of him . Does anyone think at some point that HENKE will test the market when his deal is up and look to move on to a place with a more stable management and plan to win rather than the repeated signing of bad contracts and roster turn over ?

Insightful post.
That's possible down the road if this continues, but I don't think so just yet.

If worse comes to worse, I expect Hank will have a conversation w. Slats, Torts will go, and that will help. Not unimportant, Miller and Kreider wll be better, and at minimum we will have Fast and Lindberg.
All that will help appreciably.

He won the Vezina Trophy last year playing behind this "stupid system". I sometimes feel like some of you are doing Stephen Colbert style satire.

Leetch and Gretzky were traded. Both expressed that they wanted to stay where they were. Hank leaving to pursue a Cup is not the same thing.

Gretzky asked for a trade, because The Oilers would not or could not pay him market value salary. Was it Sather that was his GM back in 88,s Oilers,no?

Yeah, but Sather was completely against trading him. Peter Pocklington, owner of the oilers, was the one who orchestrated the trade.

The dude needed money. Sather was outraged when he heard the initial news.

I don't blame him one bit for calling out this **** show of a team.

For 5 years he battled just to sneak in the playoffs, all with constant roster turnover. Last season's team finishes where they do, and management basically blew it up (50% forward turnover is blowing it up).

Combine that with how ****** the team is playing and boom, pissed off Henke.

In the summer, after the trade, 90% of these board was very happy to get rid of Dubinsky and get Nash.
But I agreed they should have kept Fedotenko and Prust.

Thank you for the answer. I remeber reading something like that when you mentioned it. :)

I cant really expound on the thread title too much, but my friends who work in the media are saying that the negotiations are going to be more tenuous then we fans might think. Also, I agree that Hank looks visibly frustrated after losses, much more than he had in the past.

Really? He's been the only consistent player on this team. The last time he stole a game was a couple of nights ago in New Jersey.

I would not blame Henry if he left. The man is awesome and I would love to see him hoist a Stanley Cup sometime in his life.

I also feel bad for Rick Nash. The guy is amazing and you know he was very excited to come to the NYR and finally become a contender. I hope things turn around for the both of them.

I'm so tired of this. If Lundquist is so unhappy here mantra. He should look at his own level of play. He is part of the problem. If he doesn't let one or two or three or 4 or 5 soft goals we might have a few more points, maybe another win or two.

If he is so unhappy here when he becomes a free agent let him go to another team in a smaller market.

I watched all time great goalies play for this team in Richter & Bezzer get HAMMERED night in & night out & suffer horrid loses that had nothing to do with them letting in soft goals & never heard a peep out of them. Enough with this ****ing guy.You haven't won dick in New York. Stop the puck & keep your mouth shut.

I don't remember Hasek getting much offensive support in Buffalo and he never cried and complained, he got them very close to a cup all by himself.

That too goes to your above point, the vast majority of the people on the board would not have given Prust the contract MTL did. The issue is that the organization did a bad job in replacing him. And for the record, despite the rangers struggles and MTL's success...I still wouldn't give him what they did.
