Helleson Ejected for Hit on Zary

However, according to Seravalli, Helleson is not facing any additional suspension. No medical update yet on Zary who immediately grabs his knee after the hit and couldnt put any pressure on it. The 2nd year Centre Zary, was starting to come into his own with 22 pts in 40 games.

Rather than leading with his knee you can actually see Helleson tuck his knee inwards to avoid the knee on knee contact. Looked like Zary tried to avoid the hit which ended up making it worse. Unfortunate accident.
I think most such incidents are unfortunate accidents. You don't see a lot of NHL players going into his genuinely looking to blow out someone's knee.

The mechanics are always the same. The hitter leads with their knee because it creates stability and balance, the victim dodges the shoulder, but the leg is the last thing to clear the lane. Same exact thing was what earned Giordano the nickname Kneeordano back in the day.

It sucks, though.

Tough play. Can see Zary just slip the shoulder check, and knee on knee contact was the inevitable result.

A legitimate knee on knee incident though. Unlike the Panthers baseball diving out of the way to get kneed in the thigh, and faking a limp and faking a visit to the doctors room to try to draw major penalties and suspensions. Otherwise known as a masterclass of cheating and gaming the Refs by Paul Maurice.

5+game was enough here

just an unfortunate result. helleson's already lined him up to make the hit and zary's left knee sticks out at the last second as he tries to make a move

IDK, to me it looks like a guy trying to avoid the hit and getting his knee messed up. Laine did the same thing in pre-season coming over the line like that and then trying to dodge a check

  • Haha
Reactions: MXD
Neither player changes the direction/stance very much. Zary slows down just a bit, Helleson widens his stance slightly, but that's about it. Not a clear cut case of Zary dodging the hit, and not a clear cut case of Helleson missing it either.

I thought the announcer was insane for saying it looked clean from up top because I thought ANYTHING but that on first viewing but on viewing the replay, I think Zary altered his path after Helleson had committed. Brutal result hopefully it's not as bad as it looked based on Zary's reaction but I don't think it warrants games

The SCF was over six months ago and the tears keep flowing. You love to see it.

5+ game was more than faie call
Hope it’s nothing too serious for Zary but didn’t look good, but hope he’s back soon as he’s been an exciting young player in the NHL.

I think Zary trying to avoid the hit put himself in a bad situation…. Just an unfortunate play. Idk exactly what helleson is supposed to do there, and don’t think he really did anything wrong there just an unfortunate part of the game.

No tears here. Just facts.

Here's a refresher, the differences between the Zary knee and this joke of a call in the SCF playoffs is obvious. You have Bennet, completely change his his trajectory, diving out of the way of the hit to get the side of his calf (not knee) hit. Then he hobbles off the bench, sits there completely fine, until someone reminds him on the bench he should go to the room to milk the injury for a major. Fortunately on this non-kneeing it was only penalized as a trip on review. Then Bennet comes out completely fine 5 minutes later no longer faking his injury, to play the next shift.

You visited a thread about Calgary and Anaheim to complain about Florida. Your fee fees are absolutely hurt.
As if I care what you think. The truth is there's been a pandemic of faked knee injuries since the SCFs and it's something this League needs to addres.

Not sure how you could throw a cleaner hit than this, stupid that there was even a penalty
