I can't even remember his NHL games before this season so I will have to take your word on it.

I was kinda including his entire development here. Since drafting him.NHL and AHL games. preseasons, camps etc the Kid has impressed the staff.

I thought Ville looked pretty amazing out there last night...considering how rusty he must be....

I saw him make some amazing, simple, smart plays in the Dzone in the second and third period...i didn't see any real mistakes...and if there were? He was right back on it covering those mistakes and making a smart simple play to fix it...

His skating really does look elite, and his ability to angle guys off is going to be a game changer on the back end.... could he be the missing link on the back end? with him and samberg? I thin our D needs might be filled

Yeah for a 23 year old with average size, it makes sense he is starting to turn into a full timer in the NHL.

Similar story to Perfetti. Not small, not slow... but when you are still a young man playing against grown men, if you aren't a half step quicker then everyone ypu will look slow because the other guys are stronger and will win most 50/50 battles.

Ville still looks young enough that bigger forwards can knock him off the puck if he gets boxed in. But his passing ability will be something we simply don't get from Stan or Fleury.

Looking forward to watching him adjust.

I'm just not sold on Heinola at all. Looks too small and weak to be a Jets defenseman. The only way I'd play him is if his stickwork, and exit passes out of the defensive zone supersede his lack of physical ability. I hope he proves me wrong, so I guess time will tell. Right now, I'd much rather have Stanley in there, or Samberg. I do think Salomonssen will work out very well though, so we could trade Heiny.

I thought he looked better than Fleury and Stan and that he can get the puck out of their end quickly instead of relying on size.

I think he looks weak not small.

Obviously Samberg is better. He is taking steps towards being a legit top pairing shut down guy.

Stanley, we'll we have all season to see who plays better between these two I guess. Hopefully both play well.

I thought Heinola had a bit of a bumpy start to the game but settled in and looked decent. Which is all you can hope for when he's been off for so long. He needs a run of consecutive games to both get up to game speed and show us what he's got.

I liked that he drew the penalty there and it worked out, but with NHL reffing, you never know if that's going to get called. Do the refs call that if it's the playoffs or if they have some money on the line at Bet365?

Me neither. But I thought he looked way better than I thought he would considering the time away from the game and a very short conditioning stint. I am already impressed with his ability to retrieve the puck and get out of trouble with the big fast fore check last night. His pinching and ability to skate also looked very good to me. This bodes well for his play once he gets a few more games under his belt. Hopefully he is one of our missing links on our D.

He needs about a 10 game stretch. Injuries have really set him back but the injury gods have thrown him a bone here with two of our top 7 out of the line up just as he is ready.

I thought he somewhat mirrored our team and looked better as the game went on.

At the end of the day every team needs to have quality affordable depth. There is a reason Chevy moved on from Schmidt and Dillon. My belief is he felt Samberg, Stan, and Ville were ready to backfill on the 2nd and 3rd pairings.

Thought Heinola looked great for his first action in so long. Play was moving towards the offensive zone when he was on the ice.

Really liked his game (what I saw) today. Really quick decisions, great passing, boxed out a couple of guys really well and then his PK was excellent as well.

Keep it going Ville! We could use a low cost home grown bonafide player.

I have been happy with Ville's progression this year as he gets more games in. However, he's still not this zone control/ exit machine that was supposed to be his hallmark. There was one play where he blindly threw it up the boards without pressure to the Leafs defenseman which eventually led to Demelo clearing it out for a penalty.

The one reply was calling Demelo "Dumelo".

Conversely, if that would have been Stanley that did it, the pitchforks would be out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy Heinola is getting some playing time, and I am very hopeful he will start to control the puck and help the Jets with zone exits, and he is starting to do that a bit more every game in my mind, but if he is going to stick with the club and overcome the percieved size and toughness argument, he will have to excel at it and start driving offense. That is what he will have to do based on his skillset.

He is 2nd on the team for % successfully exiting the zone. For what it's worth.

Doesn't mean there isn't bad plays. There is still some panic to his game he needs to work out. But he is helping exit the zone already.

Really small sample size for Heinola and I think he has be just ok, will he show more with more game experience we shall see.

heinola is probably the most overhyped player on this team. him and perfetti, i can't recall Jets players who make routine, typical plays that get their cheerleaders waiving pompoms on here.

I have to admit that I have high hopes for both of those players. I’m sure I have a bias that makes me see all of the good in their play. I am generally quite an optimist!

That's fair to say. Heinola is 90% projection of his skill set at his point.

Plenty of guys in his archetype can struggle early before becoming top 4 guys after several years.

He has a long way to go in our end to be a guy we can trust to play in the playoffs.

Maybe, however, if Heinola started playing like Morrissey - I think this coaching staff is flexible enough to change their minds. Of course, that's a LOT to ask and I don't even think he'd need to do as much as that, just an exaggeration to prove a point.

Don’t know if I agree. I imagine it will upset a lot of ppl when Stan comes in for fleury.

I am a team first guy, so whoever makes us better should be playing imo. Having said that, I’m always optimistic that someone internally homegrown can fill big shoes.

I'm a Ville fan. Above average hockey IQ and offensive instincts.
Big question mark for me is obviously his size and will he get manhandled by a big team come playoffs.
I think there is the possibility he learns over the last 40 games how to better handle bigger players.
Jury is out for me if he will be a liability come playoffs.
