with ville coming into the lineup anyways i guess now is the best time for D pair blendings. If samberg is out 4-6 weeks that puts him back in the lineup beginning of jan, we play about 22 games between now and then. Schedule also eases up somewhat after the road trip which is good news.

Honestly Stanley is probably PK1 for the period Samberg is out. He's going to get minutes, and he is definitely playing injured so that should be a concern.

Fleury is probably PK2. And he has to find his game that was good at the start if the season.

Heinola coming back may look like Perfetti missing part of TC, but worse because there is no 4 day layoffs for practice and San Jose to get up to speed. Heinola will be targeted by other teams right off the hop.

A good game in Minny will keep him in the lineup. So I guess it starts there.

I wonder if they ask Morrissey to play some more defensive minutes move pionk to 1st pp and Heinola to 2nd unit and their 30 seconds a game. As Morrissey is capable of playing in a defensive role and it manages the minutes. Give Morrissey the 2nd unit pk minutes.

Making the roster means you are part of the 22/23 players on the roster - it doesn't mean you play every game. They carried two Dmen in the PB LY (as part of the roster) and rotated them through out the yr. Stan was on the roster and likely would have been regardless of Ville's status -
Ville might replace Stan one day but that is yet to be proven - Ville still needs to show Arniel that he can play effective reg season minutes.
And just because he is scheduled to play against Minnie doesn't mean he has replaced anyone.

Fleury will probably play with Pionk. Heinola is going to take a while to get up to speed. That injury and second surgery will definitely affect him. Hopefully he recovers fully.

The discussion I was responding to was about making the "roster" - I was pointing out that the roster includes those in the PD - that's all.

I get it. But what's insanity to me is Stanley playing 2nd pair... let's see what Arniel does and gp from there I guess.

May as well see what we have in Heinola. We know Fleury is a fringe NHLer. Maybe Heinola shits the bed. Why not at least see how he does? What if he does well the first game?

Agreed. I think the right move is to move Fluery up and slot Heinola into the 3rd pair with Miller. You’d want to shelter him a bit and not throw him into the deep end night one.
