Heino out 3-4 weeks; Who should be called up?

If it’s to replace Heineman for 3-4 weeks, I don’t see how this would constitute “rushing” a prospect.

If a prospect gets ruined by a month of nhl action before being returned to the minors, chances are they have more fundamental problems.

Who's your pick and why? For myself having watched more than a handful of AHL games this season, I'd go with Davidson. Forechecking sniper in the mold of Heino.

Pez may get a shot.

Newhook had good chemistry with Armia, he could also slide down to the Evans line and then an offensive AHL player could be called up to play with Laine and Dach, like Roy or Davidson.

Come to think of it, I'd be interested to see Eans with Dach and Laine, and then bring back a line that did well last year: Armia-Newhook-Roy

I'd only want to call up somebody that has a future with this team going forward - not a stop-gap like Barry-Bullet or Nugent Hopkins. Ideally somebody that can play a bottom 6 role : Tuch, Beck or Davidson. Since Beck is going to be called up when we ditch Dvorak (I can't wait for that to happen) maybe now would be a good time to try Tuch out.

Calling up a player, playing them minimal minutes until they lose confidence, and then sending them back down in a few weeks after we've destroyed their confidence is the old Bergevin approach that I hope we don't see again.

If we are calling up a guy with a future it needs to be because that's actually what's best for that player's development. And getting a taste of NHL games isn't always the best approach to development, stability is often a big but overlooked part of development. If a young guy is really starting to build up his game, then leaving them alone to continue that building process is going to be better then calling them up.

Tuch feels like the closest in play style to Heineman if they plan on just plugging him into that line and keeping the rest.

Not sure how he's been doing though, haven't heard much hype.

You're never going to hear much hype about a guy like Tuch. He projects as a physical 4th line winger, with a ceiling of a 3rd liner.

He can be a great 4th liner and difference maker in his own way, though.

Most people likely couldn't even agree on what rushed means and we should never use the word ruin. I bet most don't understand that hockey is way more of a mental game and that confidence is key and messing with it is not a good idea.

It's simple though, if you can't do something well in the AHL, how are you expected to do it in a much tougher league?

Most of the time teams just call up whoever is "hot" with no concern for whether it's actually what's best for their long term development.
