OT - NO POLITICS Hazy Days of Winter.

had a very not cool discovery today. I just turned 40 in January. You’ll see why it matters.

Last night I noticed my eyes couldn’t focus anything within a couple feet space from my melon. I chalked it up to a long day, fighting off some sea sickness, fatigue, i just wasn’t feeling the best yesterday.

I woke up this morning and it’s still the same. I’m hoping it’s just a symptom of the scopolamine patches or something. But i don’t like it. I’ve been doing the weird “head down but peaking over the top of my glasses while extending my phone and bringing it closer until i can read it” move

If this is what they say is “forty eyes” then i don’t want it. A very harsh and sobering realization out in the middle of the Caribbean.

Hate to break it to you Chuck but Old Man Time always wins.
Today is the best you will be .

So I'll be 35 next month, i should be cherishing the final good eyes days i guess.

Everyone’s mileage will vary. I was always nearsighted. Wore glasses. Had Lasik about 20 years ago. Now wear glasses again to drive.
Just got CVS el cheapo reading glasses a couple of months ago. Could no longer see small print.
Ill be 67 in a couple of weeks so not too bad.

I do have cataracts but my eye doc wants to hold out surgery until 70 if I can. Only wants to have them done once.

That also drives home my thoughts on my own mortality.
It is what it is.

If you wear glasses for distance, you may be spared several years for close up. I have a slight prescription (-1.00) and didn't have a lot of trouble reading close up until I was in my mid-50s.
I wear contacts (sometime glasses) for distance. When I was in my 50s I had to wear cheaters over my contact lenses to see up close. At night when I take out my contacts I can read with no glasses.

Sometimes I feel like I need 4 different prescriptions to see different distances...it is always something

Absolutely. I also learned that 35 was right about the age I started pulling muscles during sports activities. Prior to that age, I’d just show up and play…..once I hit 35, my body started hating me and I had to learn to work in a pre-game stretch and a post game cool down.

Yeah….this happened to me too.

I changed careers and moved into IT 11 years ago. My eyes would be tired by the end of the day, so my doctor recommended I get reading glasses. As time went on, I found myself wearing them more and more and now, I pretty much can’t see without them. It sucks but I have accepted my fate.

I was driving home tonight and saw a late 90s Camaro like I used to have, in mint condition. My only thought was "I wish I felt like I did when I could get in and out of that car without multiple body parts screaming at me" lol

I’ve worn glasses for almost 30 years, but it was always just for distance. Lately I’ve been having trouble in the car with lights at night, and now up close.

Huzzah! For getting old

The emergency line at my apartment complex picked a hell of a night to go down. I really hope things aren’t going to be as bad as the projections are indicating. I was already at my mom’s when I got the email so I am all good and hoping it stays that way.

Do you have an astigmatism?

I have one in my right eye, found that out a few months ago. At nighttime the lights become streaky.

I turn 35 this month. 😂😅

I don’t know how it completely missed us but it did. Sadly it hit Ada which is a little over an hour southeast of us. Now we get to deal with high wind and fire danger.

I feel like we cheated something.

anyone handy with upgrading car stereos?
my 2013 tacoma touch screen took the butt end of my hockey stick and cracked it. Now the touch screen doesnt work. I looked on amazon and they have a better stereo that fits for 05-13 tacomas, Will this be difficult to install. Or is it as simple as taking the old one out and plugging in the new one?
replacing the touch screen is like $200 for just the screen on Ebay. While this new better function stereo is about $110 on Amazon

I got my first eyeglass prescription at 35- I read a lot in my work plus staring at a computer screen. I could still read w/o glasses early in the day but if I kept it up I got headaches and I could still see far away no problem. When I was 50 something I had to get bi-focals- what a trip getting used to them! Now I have bifocals with anti-glare coating. There is a cataract in my left eye but the doctor says it will be awhile before it is ready to be removed.

You all know about my other health issues. I try to remind myself that I am very blessed & that growing older isn't something everyone gets to do.

My prescription went up quite a bit this year after being stable for the past 2 years. The first symptom I had was eye fatigue that only went away if I napped or went to bed. The second was that I was having issues with detail work when I would paint. My eye doctor corrected for my farsightedness and it has made a world of difference. I am fairly certain that I will be going to progressive lenses next year.

I started using warming eye masks to help soothe my eyes when they are tired and itchy (hello allergies). A bonus is that it helps take away any sinus pain I get with my glasses

I love my Bruder mask, I have issues with dry eye and a tendency for styes - it keeps the styes at bay and feels so nice. I use it in the morning and in the evening, it is very soothing.

I use the Zeiss disposable masks and to keep it on my face I use a regular satin eye mask. I also use my systane eye drops before hand.

Usually you need to get a wiring harness that fits your vehicle. Then you need to connect the wires in the stereo to the proper wires in the harness. Best way to do this is solder and shrink tubing. Less effective are crimp connections, which are bulky and can come loose. Then the harness just clicks into the car harness.

I don’t even know what that means but that symptom is unfortunately very familiar. Ruh roh!
