Post-Game Talk: Hawks Win Game 1!

Shaw's 2nd penalty wasn't even a penalty. He never hit Kindl. His elbow did fly around, but did it even make contact? Regardless, he was called for a board and wasn't the player that hit Kindl - Bickell was.. not that I thought it was a penalty, anyways.

Certainly looked like the elbow made contact with the head, that's what they called I thought. May or may not have been his fault, but regardless he overplayed Kindl multiple times for whatever reason.

They surprised me tonight. Hawks usually look way more sloppy against Detroit. They played a tight game with a killer forecheck. I was impressed.

I remember a time when Wings fans told me that Smith will end up as Lidstroms replacement next to Kronvall on the 1st pairing  That's about 1 1/2 years in the past and I even laughed back then.

Easily the worst performance by a player we played against so far this season.

Sharp still undefeated in regulation. Crawford with another great game and I'm REALLY starting to get confidence in him. I like that guy, but those softies worried me. Fine he plays like he did in his rookie season (and even better). For all the hate Seabrook got, he had a very good game.

I think Handzus was our worst player but he still has done his job. Just don't know why Sharp has taken the draws for him in the 3rd.

This team clearly hasn't missed Stalberg, which is nice to see and make negotiations easier for the Hawks and if he prices himself out we have no problem with it - if he even wants to stay. He could get his PP Time with the Panthers or whereever Sacco will go and play with 5 forwards as 1 unit.

We outscored them, we outshot them and we deserved the W. We made far more less mistakes too. I don't think we outplayed them and thought it was pretty even for the first 50 minutes of the game.

I like me some swedes that score important goals for us.

Domination by us but still one of those games where the bounces went all our way, the Howard miscue on the Kruger goal, the bunt out of mid air by Seabs. Despite the wide margin in shots we still haven't brought the A game.

Sharps numbers are impressiv. 6 goals in 6 games.
Crawfords numbers are impressiv too.
Hoss the Tank with another goal.

I was impressed from Rozi again and our PK is still without a goal against. Good times to be a Hawks Fan

Someone needs to mention Bolland and Carcillo. 36 was his usual playoff self, despite the 8 games missed and Carcillo, though still not in game shape and looked out of place at times, still made a nice gritty play to set up yet another (important) 4th line goal. Nice game by Saad. Hossa, Oduya…. and kudos also to Seabs for stopping a sure goal. Lot’s went right for us tonight, and playing our game for 20 or 30 minutes is not going to cut it in most PO games. And, as for your query Hoss: my life does not revolve around posting on this board. Evidently, yours does.

Their only goal was a pretty fortunate bounce for them. Brunner takes the shot, stopped in Seabs' skates (Crawford had already reacted to it), he shoots again gets deflected off Leddy's stick, Crawford makes the stop and he puts in the rebound.

Tonight was one of those games where nobody played exceptional (Saad and Sharp were close), but we just played our system and game so well we dominated. The forecheck, the cycle, the puck pressure were all outstanding tonight. People keep talking about how horrible Detroit's D played, but the reality is that they were forced into many of those turn overs because of our dogged forecheck.

Not that I expect any acknowledgement from the haters, but it was also nice to have Bolland back out there in his playoff form. He really does bring it to a whole other level in the playoffs.

Great win boys. Savoring every minute of it.

Definitely wasn't a penalty on Kronwall, but Hossa didn't "dive" for the penalty, he was diving for the puck. The ref just got that call wrong.

Also, Shaw shouldn't have got his 2nd penalty, that should of went to Bickell.

No one overrates their prospects like Wings fans. Smith, Tatar, Nyquidst, Jurco, Sheahan....how long have we been hearing how awesome these guys are going to be?

Q needs to bring Stalberg back and either take Carcillo out and move Shaw down or take Handzus out and move Bolland up.

In response to Bubba gloating in the GDT thread, about Kruger playing over Stalberg: Yeah. Under 9 minutes of ice time, 0 for 11 at the dot and happened to be skating in front of the net when Carcillo did the dirty work to get the puck loose. Luckily for him, he’s Q’s pet, cause he certainly hasn’t done much to deserve a spot over Stalberg. Especially so, when we have so many good PK players and anyone is better at the dot than Kruger. (his losing key draws on the PK will bite us eventually). With Bolland back, if Q somehow managed to come to his senses, sitting Kruger would not hurt this team, but you keep convincing yourself otherwise. He is not the asset you and others think he is. This team has been winning despite Q as coach, not because of him.

Back to VS, my guess is that Q, once again, isolated and chastised Stalberg for his bad giveaway. That nerve was pinched one time too many times and VS finally spoke his mind. Hopefully Q’s bruised ego will not interfere in future decisions… but I won’t hold my breath.

Good to get that first win. Not really shocked with the way they started and so was pleasantly surprised when they took over like they did. That aside, the most encouraging thing about that game was Bolland. Post-Abdelkader bodyslam that was as good and engaged as Bolland has looked all year. It was nice to see shades of that crazy, **** disturbing, serial killer looking player we've all grown to love.

Hossas skate got clipped by some Wing when he was making the dive for the puck.

Denial is a hell of a drug.

What the hell is going on?

The Hawks are 1-0 against their biggest rival in the Conference Semi-Final and people are arguing over which bottom six player is better and more valuable to the team then the other?

The Wings were hemmed in their zone for a period and a half. What more do you need to see? Honestly that was more domination than almost ever happened in the regular season.
