Congrats to Chelios, very well deserved, but there's gonna be alot of people wondering why Seabrook isn't getting his retired as well then (unless they plan on announcing him later).

I suspect Seabrook will be later.

I know a lot of Hawks fans hated how he left Chicago but he is still one of the greatest Hawks and he deserves to have his number retired. Congrats to Chelios.

Starting to assume so as well. It was just we were use to seeing a joint retirement like Pilote and Magnuson but they'll probably do it different this time. I forgot Seabrook is still technically "under contract" with the Lightning so he would have to wait another year anyways.

Gotta get in as many special nights as they can.

But if Seabrook gets his number retired like Hossa did then Sharp should as well

Seems odd to only do it halfsies, unless they intend to do Seabrook as well this season on a different night.

edit: oh, missed that he’s not eligible under new team rules until 2027? That’s… odd?

boo-urns over Crow likely being locked out for a number retirement barring an unlikely hall of fame induction.

It feels weird to do this for Chelly and not Seabs. I know they said this 2027 thing...well then why not wait til then and retire the number for them both together?

And to be clear, Chelios is a far better player than Seabrook ever was. But he also only played 1/3 of his career here, which kind of makes it weird to get a # retirement under such circumstances.

Not surprised that they are just doing Chelios, new regulations aside. Seabrook is technically still under contract with TB, and I assume they want to make the night all about one player and not divide the attention. I have no doubt Seabs will get his 7 retired as well, on his own night.

Rangers did Graves/Bathgate a couple weeks apart, Seabs will likely have to wait longer but it'll come.

Super happy about this. Cheli is one of the best players in team history and IMO time heals all wounds.

Honestly even before the new "rules" you basically had to be a HHOF inductee to get your digit(s) retired. Magnuson was the exception due to tragedy.

Seabrook is still technically on an NHL roster, even though he is LTI-Retired. Makes sense why they can't retire it officially.

#7 will always be Seabrook

When he is eligible his banner needs to go up

But the travesty that is treatment of #28 and #24 should have long been rectified

Both should be up there especially now that Wilson is in HOF which puts to rest that nonsense (Must be HOF crap) that already was shown to be nonsense with Magnuson

#7, #19, #24, #28, #50 and #88 should all go up

Not sure about Crow.

Crow's the third-winningest goalie in Hawks history, and had the team not stupidly moved on from him he would've easily become the second-winningest, sandwiched between two Hall of Fame retired numbers. Couple that with him being a top 3 reason for both the 2013 and 2015 Cups, bailing the team out for years afterwards, and the team unsurprisingly falling off a cliff almost as soon as he was let go, and I don't really see an argument against Crow having his number retired.

You might not be surprised to hear that I agree

This is tricky...Cheliios played 10 NHLseasons in Detroit after 9 seasons in Chicago and 7 seasons in Montreal before Chicago.

This itvseems he should not fit tge bill as a strictly or predominantly Chicago candidate for having his nicer retired ...especially when he had no Cup glory in Chicago whereas tgebotger #7 (Seabrook) got us 3 Cups(even if his final contract became an albatross)...thus I have very mixed feelings about Cheluos...great NHL career but only a portion of it in Chicago..so is he "really " "ours "or only a visitor with us (even if the visit lasted 9 seasons?)
..I am therefore not sure his candidacy for jersey retirement makes sense.Maybe they shoud have waited till Seabrook finished his final contract and officially retires...Then they xoukdvhave had a double#7 jersey retirement to homour both players..But this alone for Chekuos seems wrongg to.me.

Nah, Sharp won't be a HHOFer, and doesn't have the individual awards.

I find that HHoFer thing to be pretty weak, it isn't like Hossa was a hall of fame worthy player his time here... though he was still very good.

But I guess as long as Seabrook doesn't get his 7 "retired" it ok....though I have a feeling it will

He played more games with Chicago than any other team which fits the Hawks criteria (664 with Chicago, 578 with Detroit, 402 with Montreal, 7 with Atlanta). Even if you count his playoff games (103 with Detroit, 98 with Montreal, 65 with Chicago) he still has more games played overall with the Hawks than any other team (729 - Chicago, 681 - Detroit, 500 - Montreal) Plus, he's a Chicago guy too, hometown kid. That holds weight in this city.

I don't think Hossa should have got his number retired either, but he has more of a case as he is a HHOFer and was a much better player than Sharp was. It doesn't matter what you think of the HHOF thing.

Sharp didn't really do anything major of note while with the Hawks, whereas at least Seabs played more than 1000 games and spent his entire playing career here.
