GDT: Hawks @ Pens - 6PM CDT on...The U?!?

How much time do we think Davidson has to show improvement? Presumably he only gets one more coach and they get how many years to push for a playoff spot? 2 years?
I doubt his seat is hot for the foreseeable future. Team’s attendance still is among the top in the league. His job security will only come under fire if the team quits on another coach.

If the guys you're sending to Rockford are just the fringe ones, they're not going to help the Blackhawks win games anyway

Tank still intact
let me clarify again lol - any player where there is an argument to be made that they could use time in Rockford but there is an argument for having them stay in the NHL and it would hurt the McKenna odds....so as far as impact on the odds - Rinzel, Levshunov, Moore, Korchinski and then how do they spend money this summer..is it more cap dumps to get to the floor and stack more assets or do they splurge and spend future assets/prospects to try to take the next step, maybe prematurely...my biggest fear as a fan is that the FO thinks they will run out of time and do dumb shit to 'speed it up'

I don't think there's any debate on Rinzel and Lev right now. They should be in the NHL.

And whether Moore and Korch are in the AHL or NHL, I don't think it has any impact on whether Chicago wins or loses games.

But you're right on the speed up stuff.

Too many times tonight the Blackhawks had control in the offensive only to end up not getting a shot off…and in most cases it was their own fault, skating out of position or blindly passing the puck away(that has happened all season) they need to learn how to draw penalties

Davidson is fine. I will say I don’t think he’ll get to hire a third coach.
Agree, and presumably he'd get 2-3 years with said coach...just curious how it affects their offseason plans if this is the timeline they're operating on...does he give out some 'well it won't be my problem if it doesnt work out' type contracts the next two summers

Quentin Musty or Nate Danielson in a trade for Korchinski doesn't move the needle much at Forward. The Hawks already have those kinda guys.

I completely understand drafting Levshunov.

Hawks need star forwards. You only get them by drafting highly. They're still 2-3 years away from sniffing the playoffs.

Also, a complete teardown takes 5 years at least, so if the 2022-23 season was year 1 of the teardown, then Davidson's seat shouldn't be hot until the 2027-28 year, and that's if they're still cellar dwellers.

I don't agree.

Right now Bedard and Nazar are the only locks at forward.

Keep acquiring more forwards. You've got 12 spots to fill on a roster.

Danielson has middle six upside... Musty I think could be a top sixer though.

Well, that was horrible.

KK with a rough night, reminds me of that last preseason game he had this year where it seems like every mistake he made was punished. Still shake my head at the declarations that he is never going to amount to anything, but it was indeed a rough game.

Entire team was horrible. Several times lines got caught out there for 2+ minutes for no other reason than the forwards were not supporting and giving options when the D got the puck, leading to rims around the boards and easy keep ins.

4 games left, what is a team meeting even supposed to accomplish at this point.

KK needs another entire year in Rockford, but I’d send him packing in a second for Danielson, Howard, or anyone of that caliber.

Obviously he’s a strong skater and shows a great first pass at times, but he plays too timid and scared for them to be strengths. I don’t think that’s something he’s going to figure out at the NHL level.

I think this was a valid criticism of him last year, but I just don't think that is the case this year. I don't see him playing timid at all. He is stepping up and closing his gaps much better this year, he is engaging better in front of the net (in fact I would argue he is too focussed on being physical in front of the net instead of just taking away the stick), and he has gotten much better at battling and pinning guys on the boards. His issues have been more getting a bit lost in coverage rather than an effort/timidity issue. I wold actually argue his engagement/physicality has been one significant area of growth for him this year.

The team meeting is just an effort to make them accountable for the rest of the season. Let them know they’re pro’s and they can’t play like shit to close out the rest of these meaningless games.

I’m not sure why pro’s would need to be told that in the first place but we don’t live in a perfect world.

I wouldn’t say he is physically timid. More mental. Puck on and off the stick. Anxious under forecheck pressure. Not holding onto pucks to make plays offensively.

In junior he was a one man breakout with spin moves and holding onto pucks. While it’s not junior, he has the physical ability to still do those things even at this level. He needs to use his skating hands and vision to produce more. I think his blue line defense is solid. I think his in zone defense is a mess still. The game happens around him.

Do we honestly think some silly ‘team meeting’ matters? The Hawks are in a battle with SJ for the worst team in the league yet again. They are checked out. Knight is letting in at least one softy a game. The vets - notably Teuvo, Donato and Foligno have totally checked out.

They have less than a week remaining in the season. They are all clearly thinking about off season fun and not getting hurt.

And they are playing like that.

they've had endless team meetings under this 'leadership group'...bunch of run of mill vets with letters on their sweaters, none of them have been leaders on great teams, imagine being a young guy coming into a new job and the older timer who was never really that good to begin with wants to tell you all about doing the work, they get tuned out eventually...

you need your leadership group to be your best players to have real accountability

Definitely doesn’t matter but I’d be curious who is being called out and who organized it.

I don’t think the young guys would have the stones to do it… and the old guys are old enough and been on losing teams all the time throughout their careers that’s it’s hard to see them being the ones to call it with only 4 games left.

So who the heck did and why?

Something against Reichel for the missed meeting is all I can think. Can’t be the collective play of the team otherwise this would’ve been the 50th meeting this season by now.
