I don't really understand this. We traded a very late second to slightly move up in the 1st and 2nd? This is a move you do when you know that a guy won't be available a couple picks later.

Tbf we know roughly what names are going to be off the board for the top 17.

Macklin Celebrini
Anton Silayev
Ivan Demidov
Sam Dickinson
Cayden Lindstrom
Artyom Levshunov
Zayne Parekh
Zeev Buium
Tij Iginla
Beckett Sennecke
Berkly Catton
Carter Yakemchuk
Cole Eiserman
Konsta Helenius
Michael Brandsegg Nygard
Trevor Connelly
Liam Greentree

Arrange the order however way you want, but those are likely the top 17 names. Blackhawks are probably looking at a similar list on their end.

But like @Mrfenn92 said, I doubt it stops at 18. Strong possibility they package 18 to move up even further on draft day.

It makes a lot of sense if your list drops off at 18 players. Or if youve got another trade up conversation that you want to pursue but 20 was too steep a drop for the team. I’m eyeing the Buffalo and Philly picks.

18 and 34 gets you to 9th overall. Let’s say comfortably to that 11/12. Not saying it’s realistic. Just what the chart says. I think falling Catton or Yakemchuk?

Could also add future seconds taking cap back in other deals
I doubt we’ll see much of that this year. Everyone has lots of cap space, I suspect they’ll just hold onto the bad deals instead of throwing picks away to dump them.

I'm eyeing that New Jersey pick at 10. That's a team that probably desperately doesn't want to miss the playoffs again. They'd be willing to do something hasty.

To Chicago:
:hawks
-2024 1st round pick (10th overall)
-Jake Allen
-Nathan Bastian

To New Jersey:
:devils
-2024 1st round pick (18th overall)
-2024 3rd round pick (67th overall)
-2024 3rd round pick (72nd overall)
-Petr Mrazek
-Ryan Donato
-Lukas Reichel

Jiricek would be the name that makes sense with your list (and most mocks) of a guy that could/should be there at 18 but not at 20. Dedimov and Jiricek would be a spectacular draft for the Hawks

We get it you hate Reichel

Also Mrazek just signed extension. Hawks aren't going to trade him

I am gonna be honest

Unless there is something else coming this is pretty stupid trade

To give up a 2nd to move up 2 + 4 a month ahead of draft really makes no real sense

If this was draft day and guy you wanted was falling, understandable

This trade = Why now?
