Hockey buzz very own John Jaeckel. By chance does anyone know where this guy gets his info he spews? He is always talking about internal disputes or the demise of Sharp or how Teravainen wont be good. Is this guy and or site just a glorified fan with a keyboard to take to? And who are the good follows besides Kuc

Jaekel is a hack, and the official beats are cowards that throw softball questions and stroke the team to keep their press badges. Lazerus and Myers are particularly bad.

Best bet for actual insights is TCI, IMO.

Some writers to follow on twitter (and their fill-ins/supporting reporters who sometimes cover for them or add additional quotes)

Tribune:
Chris Kuc / Scott King

CSNchicago.com:
Tracey Myers / Nina Falcone

ESPNchicago.com
Scott Powers

Sun-Times:
Mark Lazerus/ Brian Sandalow / Herb Gould

Daily Herald
Mike Spellman / John Dietz

NHL.com
Brian Hedger

Third Man In (IceHogs news)
Chris Block

Josh Mora was one of the rare ones who was critical of some things organizationally when he was on Comcast and look what the Hawks brass ended up doing to him. Probably the only guy on that set who knew hockey.

So true.......

And Tracy Meyers is just a puppet of McD. She has never nor will ever ask anything but a creampuff question. I guess same goes for Kuc. But I especially am not a fan of hers.

Having been in the business before and now being a fan, I understand the desire for tough questions, but as I am sure most of you understand, they wouldn't get a lot of answers with this club and might even be shunned if they asked them so there isn't much upside for them professionally to ask them.

The Hawks are very guarded and unfortunately they make the rules as to what they give out. They aren't giving much, so for my money, Mark Lazerus gets you info the quickest via Twitter and has personality. He's my favorite.

Sports reporting kind of is what it is these days. Players and coaches are given free reign to treat reporters and media like crap. They are coached up to give generic answers and not get themselves in trouble in press conference situations because they will be so heavily scrutinized. Media want great answers, but they are the ones that prevent them dragging players and coaches through the mud when they get them. That is why you have guys like Belichick and Lynch treating pressers like they do.

End rant.

I agree it is not like the 'old' days where the press would build up and tear down players. They want to keep their job. But when she asks a question not positive, you can hear the fear in her voice. I guess being a reporter is more like being a PR person for the team if you want to be allowed access.

While this seem true....you gotta admit...nice job to have...plus she gets an expense account that allows her to go to top restaurants on the road games. ..sweets so much about food and drink that you wonder how she does not bloated up..as I said...nice bushy job..many would like to be in her position even if you have to bury your journalistic integrity to never ask the tough questions and become a McD synchophantic lackey...she is sweet though..hard to dislike that..Kinda part of the homey-friendly "family" that appeals to the large vast adoring not too critical Hawks fandom. .(I refuse to use the hackneyed term of "Nation" that other teams use in describing their fanbase. ...but if we must coin a new term for this I suggest "Hawkaholics")....but to get back on topic..would you not sell your journalistic soul to the McD devil if he remains pleased with your sugar-coated reporting so that you can remain on good terms with the org and keep your great job covering a wonderful beloved team and of course that great travel expense account? Especially since you too are an adoring fan too? ALL us fans would..So we cannot be too hard on poor Tracey...many would gladly trade places with her to be so close to their favourite team and enjoy the finest meals too when covering them out of town..Ok the inconvenience of so much plane travel..but still. ..on balance...a great job to have..and so asking only nice questions and avoiding nasty ones too critical is a price many would pay for such a yes-person position..Asking tougher questions would upset the cozy -friendly all in this together charming situation..and then you would be replaced. WHO among us would jeopardize that by being more provocative? Not many,if any...So while we fans would like to know how Q really feels about a certain player or his team overall or why they cannot get up to start games strong in the first period instead of having to fight back from deficits..or why certain stars do not shoot more..or why this or that...we cannot expect the beat reporters to jeopardize theiir jobs by getting Hawks brass filed at them if they get too tough or insistent regarding certain issues..Safe questions. ..safe reporting...all one big happy family.

I wonder the same thing. I mean...she packs the food away like no other woman i know.

Yep... in many ways the media reflects life in general..... There will always be a few individuals who go over the line and ruin for the rest.

Remember when Tebow was asked if he was a virgin at SEC media days back in college...yeah, that was a guy named Clay Travis that asked that question. Somehow, he works for Fox now. Would you take questions if people we asking you hack questions like that?

I would be like Marshawn Lynch.

This is true and also why I don't particularly like Laz. Acts too sanctimonious sometimes, especially about Teuvo stuff.

Agreed. Wholeheartedly.

None of them are particularly great, but as stated, they don't have a ton to work with I guess, either. Kuc's not bad. It more comes down to their personalities and interactions with people and Kuc's probably the coolest and most down to Earth, in my opinion.

Tim by far was the best. He was there through the lean years and answered many emails from fans.

Honestly, the best reporter out there is Chris Block.

Any CSN reporter is basically a Hawk employee.

IMO, if you ask a hard question and they refuse to answer it. Print that instead of letting it slide.
