Have the olympics been a disappointment?

the Olympics is a collection of sports for the most part that nobody cares about for 4 years. Not much to get up about.

Personally i rather have the NHL then Olympic hockey. Have a tournament to prove who is the best country like a world cup in the offseason so teams can prepare properly.

I've only seen 1 game on TV and heard 1 on the radio so far, thanks to school. Both involved my favorite team against teams outside the "Big 7." So, I'll hold judgement until I see two hockey powers collide or until Sunday when Canada plays Finland.

the olympics has been a disappointing for INSERTCOUNTRY that hasn't performed to par.

In the last Olympics each "good" team (minus Slovakia) got to play only 1 bad team (Germany and Belarus). This time, teams are playing 2-3 games against bad teams, creating less interesting games.

One of the "big games" was a dud with Sweden putting in a lemon, but Slovakia-Russia was fantastic.

how can a hockey fan not be lovin what’s goin down?

did you foresee Finland and Slovakia leading their groups at the 2-game break?

can you imagine one team never getting scored on thru the opening deuce? and that team being the one who lost both their #1 And #2 goalies?

is the awesomely Abeischer Swiss this year’s Belarus?

the IIHF schedules the tourney based on their international standings, and the top teams don’t face each other by design until the second half of the round-robin.

these are some of the best national teams ever assembled – the Russians!? that is Some kinda offense!
the overall unity, passion & skill of Team Canada!?
the Slovaks who are skating, passing & scoring like the 80s Oilers?

the opening two games are like being let in on the rehearsals. The show’s just about to begin.

Czechs vs. un-scored-on Finns is the masterpiece to be painted on Saturday (3 Eastern). (everybody pray to the hockey gods tonight that CBC has their shite together for this one!)

and also, ya can’t watch the highlights and get a sense of the games. That Slovakia-Russia dipsy-doodler was just the hottie harbinger. stay freakin tuned . . .

You have the exact same 6 big teams plus Slovakia, which means MORE "interesting" games.

And the Swiss and Latvians certainly made their games interesting, more so than Belarus and Germany 4 years ago since theses two teams were going through to the next round anyway. Pretty much every second round game in 02 was meaningless.

Some of the events are really boring unless you've participated yourself and can appreciate it. Overall it's been what I expected.

I enjoy being able to watch so many great players all on the same, and watching guys I don't get to see alot.

For Canadians the tournament has kinda started slowly as we've only played Italy and Germany so far but should start to get interesting with better opponents. The games being played at 7 am est time also hurts.

They set the schedule up to have almost all the games between the good and weak teams to start off.

Things are going to get really interesting the next two games.

USA vs. Slovakia
Finland vs. Russia

Then on Sunday...

Canada vs. Finland
USA vs. Sweden

And Tuesday will be the best of the prelim days...

Canada vs. Czech Rep
Slovakia vs. Sweden
USA vs. Russia

It's tough for me to judge because I've caught hardly any of the action due to school and other obligations. This weekend I have a long Jetblue plane ride where I will watch the US vs. Slovakia and later see whatever other action I can catch.

It's just heating up. Cool your jets.

Seriously, to SUSPEND a ski jumper because he covered up a corporate logo  What happened to playing for the love of the game and the thrill of competition? And just what happened to the real sports, half the events aren’t even sports.

Someone was suspended for covering up a corporate logo? you cannot be serious!

Agree that half of the competitions are not sports. Ice dancing? Skeleton? Curling? !

The thread is a perfect example of the instant gratification society we live in. People expect every game to be their new favorite game of all time, and if a couple games dont live up to the lofty expectations, they are disappointed.

I think I would be more suprised if someone wasnt complaining about something on here .
:biglaugh: :handclap:

The hockey has been great and is the only thing I watch in the Olympics. As far as the other events, who cares about any of the athletes in any of the sports. We only hear of these people every 4 years and I don't think anyone in North America gives a damn, the ratings are proving it. Other network prime time shows are beating the Olympics in all of the ratings.

Switzerland beats to powerhouses. Latvia takes a point from the US. And Russia barely beats Kazakhstan: how can that be disappointing? :)
