Have JJ and Bowman had the worst 9 months in Oilers history?

The summer we signed Jack Campbell and any 9 month period of Chiarelli's tenure are worse, but the fact that we have another crippling offseason with incompetent management is astounding.

The difference between the DoD, Chiarelli and this year is that at no point in time did we have a clear cup contender as we do (did) now.

To me this is an unparalleled disaster like wrapping your brand new Lamborghini straight around a tree on your way home from the dealership without insurance.

Savoie is the only good move. The rest is Chiarelli levels of ineptitude.

Except McDavid was 21 when Chiarelli was dropping turds.

Hes 28 now and this Narccicistic prick was handed a Ferrari. All he had to do was downgrade to a Porsche with the cap issues, he turned it into a Ford Focus.

Feels like it would have made a lot more sense to make this thread after Friday.

We already know what they are doing Friday based on all the insiders- a bottom six forward and a depth D. There is no reason to believe they or the front office are lying because any disposable player is anchored here by an NMC, and there has been no credible chatter about anything other than the Kane dispute… which further ties up our cap.

For those who keep bringing up the Ekholm miracle, keep in mind that happened more than a week before the deadline. We are now in the final few days and there has been zero smoke. Bowman and Jackson seem content to roll into the playoffs with the current group, which would not detract from the theme of this thread. In fact, it only cements it IMO.

Henrique straight up took McLeod's job in the playoffs. Foegele's play made them give up on him ever moving into the top 6 so they gambled that Arvidsson could at the same price. Did the OP not watch the Oilers play last year?

The real question is did management watch the guys they signed last year?

They f***ed up so bad it feels like there's no chance at a Cup this year. Or ever.

The only one of those that stings was not keeping Broberg and Holloway. The rest is all short term and still might have benefit come playoff time. Savoie for McLeod will end up being a huge win for us in the long run.

If they don't get a goalie then an argument could be made just based on the sheer potential this team had...

Alas, I fear the cup window has closed. It lasted for two years. The first year was squandered by playing Stuart Skinner after he had clearly imploded. And it could be heavily argued that the team lost for the same reason last year. And the worst part is that this team had far better goaltending from Mike Smith, behind a defense lacking Mattias Ekholm!

Has one organization ever done more to squander generational performances by neglecting one area more than the Oilers neglected its goaltending?

Yeah its hard to get my hopes up again. 2022 three of our games went into OT, lost all of them. 2023 we went on an absolute tear entering the playoffs and arguably looked like a lock for the WCF, then choked to Vegas. We were even leading in game 5 lol. Last year we choke to florida by going down 0-3. Ive known nothing but pain as an oilers fan in my 27 years of living. Losing to 3 cup winners in a row is the cherry on the shit sundae

Henrique? Yes that was my point. Arvidsson was a career top 6 player that was a gamble due to coming off injury but the Oilers couldn't have afforded as a full price top 6 UFA. Skinner was a cheap reclamation project which I wouldn't have done but understand why someone would.. especially if that someone wasn't a real GM which is a pretty f***ing ridiculous situation for a pro team.

Voted no, but it could swing to a yes quite easily.

If they have a crap deadline, or trade Kane to watch him light it up elsewhere and get bounced in the playoffs early; then it's close. Chia f***ed up a team on the rise. Holland failed to take a team to the next level for years. This would be a dismantling of a SC favourite, which is more egregious imo. As far as I'm concerned, the McDavid years need to be separated from the rest of Oilers history since we didn't always have a rich owner AND a generational player or 2.

I argue this offseason was much worse because in the past nobody wanted to play here. This management group had options and resources the others dreamed about

So, if we are debating if decisions now are comparable to the decade of darkness, what does that say?

Since we have all watched Skinner/Arvy play now, how many would have identified these type of players for leon? It is shocking and shows Jackson was thinking in fantasy hockey terms. And we sacrificed all the kids on the roster to chase after them.
