Has there ever been a worse offseason and trade deadline by a new GM than what Barry Trotz pulled off?

That’s bad but it’s not as bad as others. Hextall in Pittsburgh, Tallon’s 2017-18 in Florida, Paul Fenton’s year in Minnesota, and take your pick of the Islanders.

That’s a lot of incredibly low stakes trades, one bad contract that he took a reasonable gamble on, and then Fabbro is probably the most damning move.

Lou has got to be close, re-signing Palmieri when you could have got a solid asset for him is one of the dumbest decisions in NHL history, holding on to other soon to be expiring contracts on a team that is going nowhere in a hot market is equally as dumb
We all make fun of buffalo for being a stuck franchise, but NYI have been just as irrelevant over the last 15 years as well. They just happen to be stuck mid table, which you can argue is worse than being at the bottom of the table.

Trotz is a smart man. Thought he would be a pretty good GM, especially since he has direct access to Poile. He is off to about as bad a start as possible. I wonder how much of this is on him or if those around him are giving rotten advice. Good thing is he has nowhere to go but up.
The Peter Principle ~ A person highly competent at one level is promoted to a higher level where they are totally incompetent.

Yeah, they have to fire Trotz and the idiot who hired him.

Just this season, out of his deals with Pittsburgh alone:

Nashville: Bunting, a 4th

Pittsburgh: Novak, Tomasino, 2nd, 4th, 3rd, 3rd, 6th (from Glass and Schenn)

Like, what is the thought process with Nashville

What Dubas has done to Trotz in their trades has to be considered elder abuse.

Feel free to add other blunders. Just going to name a few and then read the replies.

  • Traded away Novak for Bunting (who is out for the year) but Dubas fleeced him into throwing in Schenn for a 4th round pick. He just signed Novak to a 3 year deal on March 4th 2024. Dubas turns around and flips Schenn for a 2nd and 4th round pick.

Wait is Bunting out for the year? He was out due to appendicitis but I wasn't aware he was out for the year.

Trotz said he would be a part of our top 6 starting next year in an interview. So, just going off that. The timeline for him would give him the possibility to play the last couple weeks of the season. Not sure if they plan on shutting him down or what based off the comments.

It's a classic case of nepotism where the person has zero experience and just because they were involved as a coach for the team they get the position rather than someone like an AGM who has been doing amazing work for years and years.
