Luckiest team ever to have 114 point regular season, great special teams, great goaltending, elite skill and will, good coach, score clutch goals and have balls the size of grapefruits. Other than those minor details they are very lucky. I will leave the whiner op with this because I'm a nice guy.

Kind of. They have the best goalie in the world and an incredibly dangerous and opportunistic offense.

Luck? Not really. A reliable way to win and a blueprint for teams to follow for years to come? No. But when you have the best goalie in the league and a deep offensive team it can work.

I thought on this thread a bit more the three or four luckiest goals this series have been from the Panthers. The Rangers have outscored the Panthers 5 on 5 6 to 5 with one coming on an empty netter for the Panthers another from a cross that a Rangers player put in with no Panther player around him. The Rangers have not scored any really soft goals this series. They had higher XG in both of the first two games. The Rangers have gotten called for 16-10 penalties in this series.

How have they been lucky?

Because people need to find excuses when the Rangers win.

They are not lucky, the are just New York - so they receive lottery wins courtesy of the league.
Pulling for them in this series, keep bringing the luck!

OP starts a thread about the Rangers being the luckiest team left immediately following a game where Barkov scored one that went off his thong and Trouba kicked one into his own net. Not to mention Lafreniere scored for the Panthers in game 1.

You can't make up HFboards, you really can't
lol I still believe they’ve been the luckiest team overall these playoffs doesn’t take away how great their team is or how great Igor is.

lol. To be fair though they hadn’t had a first overall pick since 1965 so they were due. They wouldn’t have been a playoff team in the Covid year either. That draft is an excellent draft by the Rangers though. Laf, Schneider, Cuylle, Rempe, Berard and Garand.

Idk man, maybe racking up the most points in the league over 82 means the team is kind of, good?

And perhaps people need to realize analytics arent the end all be all. Analytics tell us carolina will win every year because they just pepper a high volume of horrid shots
basic internet analytics love the high volume shoot on site teams. nhl teams use far more advanced analytics that go into shot type, cross ice passing, location, etc. rangers have consistently bettered these basic analytic models for like 10+ years now.

I really don't care if they luck their way into 6 more wins. I really couldn't care less.

They haven't really done this in the playoffs. Shesterkin though has been phenomenal at times.

It's also not like their goals are flukes either. Lafreniere ate Kulikov's lunch. Nice transition play up the ice for a break. A clapper from Goodrow and two deflections. And who got the fluky bounce off Trouba's skate? Or the deflection off the shaft of a stick for a clear?

Nobody was saying this after they pushed for the 3rd and OT last game. They made a huge push late in game 1 too. They went into a full turtle and rope-doped a win.

No, that would have been the Vancouver Canucks. Good team, but deserved to go 5 max with the Oilers, not 7.

Florida was throwing everything at the net. Kind of like Carolina did in their series only they had a higher % of quality chances than the Canes. Igor gets zoned in he's tough to beat.

Looking at the Rangers goals though---they were all good to great chances that Bobrovsky didn't have much chance on. Lafreniere made two terrific plays. Goodrow a nasty deflection with a screen goalie and then a bang bang play coming out of a corner for the shorthanded and Wennberg's top corner deflection. The Rangers might not get lots of shots but they tend to be high quality.

On the question of luck though.....it comes in many ways and no team is going to win the Cup without a lot of it.
