Has Marc-Andre Fleury become overrated in recent years?

I had bad information. Someone years ago once said he barely ever got top 10, but it seems yes, he was runner-up in '96. That was an all-time year for him and Detroit(until it wasn't), but yes, he did come close once. I'll take the L on that one, something more people should learn to do these days. But I still think Fleury was better. Was never impressed by Osgood, and I think Detroit was even better during his career than Pittsburgh or Vegas was for Fleury's.
Fleury has been replaced and rode the bench numerous times in his career.

He was benched for Vokoun due to poor play in 2013 and was going to be a backup in 2014 as well before Vokoun had a career ending health issues.

He was benched for Murray and lost his net because he was worse than him in 16 and 17

He was benched for Lehner in Vegas in 2020 and 2021 (with 2021 even being a Vezina winner)

Even 2023 he lost his net to Gustavsson. I don’t see how any great goalie could lose his net and be forced into a backup role 6 different times in his career and still be said to be a better goalie he wasn’t even the best goalie on his own team when it mattered most

So he got pulled for Vokoun in 2013, yes. Would Vokoun have been the starter the following year had he been healthy? I don't know. 2016 he was injured, that's why Murray was in. 2017 he got pulled for Murray, and probably didn't need to be. Vegas benching him in 2020 was a mistake. 2021 they deliberately shared the net that playoff. 2023, he was old by then. Trust me, as a Flyers fan, I saw his worst, and my team reaped the benefits(2012).

The way I see it, he's HOF because he checks all the boxes. Top 5? Hell no. Top 10? Still I'd say no chance. Win totals inflated, yes. He's had lower lows than maybe any HOF goalie ever, but he's still getting there.

He's always been overrated. For all the crap Ozzie gets about playing on good Red Wings teams, MAF should get the same about being on those good Pens teams.

As an NYR fan, can't say I loved him, but I feel like he was underrated for a good amount of time. Players fall in and out of favor on HFBoards.

Fleury's gotten a lot of attention the last few years, and then that's sort of reversed recently. He's been as good as needed throughout his career, if that makes sense.

I don't think Fleury was ever a top-5 goalie, but he was a consistent, good starter for the vast majority of his career, and definitely was in the top-half of goalies for a decent number of years.

When it looked like things were fading, he popped back up with Vegas and stayed at that level of consistency, building on his career outside of Pittsburgh when a lot of folks thought it was over. And I think that's a big thing and a reason people spoke about him a lot more.

He's missing the lights-out seasons of guys like Lundqvist and Price, but he stayed consistent throughout and generally did well at avoiding. Even if you want to say the Vezina was a reputation win, second all-time in wins and multiple cups is still a solid resume.

Dude nobody said he's comparable to them?

Louongo is in the HoF after he was laughably benched for some disaster playoff moments. Hey, he even replaced Marty who was benched in the Olympic

5 separate beachings in the playoffs and being forced into a backup role is not exactly comparable to a 5 game international tournament. Even Lou wasn’t forced into a backup role countless other times besides when Schneider was there. MAF losing his net on every team he has been on is honestly impressive something Hank Belfour Roy and Lou never did but hey at least he stacked more wins than them playing behind Crosby and Vegas team that was good enough to where they could win with their 4th and 5th string goalies.

Fleury has played for a really long time on some very good teams. Those are the key reasons he’s getting into the Hall.

I will say that as his career progressed that with the exception of his first year in Vegas his teams realized that in games that matter they were generally better off with Fleury on the bench as opposed to on the ice.
