Has Jeff O'Neill from TSN always been a jerk?

Not sure why the city of Toronto is getting bashed at all in this thread. Ironic, no? Nothing wrong with Toronto.

I agree... no need to bash Toronto. It's a great international city and Canadians should be proud of it in relation to other major world cities.

The issue here is that TSN has employed a commentator who is evidently so Toronto-centric that he doesn't take the time or interest to understand other Canadian franchises, and therefore makes ill-informed comments when trying to analyze their games. If TSN likes O'Neil, let him just comment on Leafs games, or force him to actually do a bit of research about other franchises before putting him on as an analyst for the Jets and other Canadian franchises.

No need to bash the city of Toronto. It is a fine place.

The Leafs are a good example to counter the "players don't want to play in Winnipeg" nonsense.

The bashing is just a response to the media in general's completely opposite portrayal of Toronto as opposed to Winnipeg. That being that players would step over their own mother for a chance to play for the Leafs.

If only Winnipeg was lucky enough to be able to pay our the arse for extremely average players like Clarkson's deal...

Again, to debunk the climate theory, you guys are of course aware of the hoards of players beating down the Panthers door to come play there right? Wait, they're not? How could that be?

Say one of Winnipeg or Florida was currently an essential playoff lock and Cup contender like the Hawks or Pens, then yeah, Winnipeg or Florida would be more appealing to FAs. Even then though $$$ is the biggest factor plain and simple. Chicago had to pay a pretty penny to extend Bickell considering the type of production he's going to give you.

The "players not wanting to come to Winnipeg" is a myth and frankly we're probably going to hear it for the rest of our lives, even if it is a bunch of bologna. Don't get worked up about it, you'll live longer.

I'll take listening to this silliness over that old "Winnipeg could never support an NHL team" stuff that so many "experts" claimed in the past.

For those, that are truly upset & take issue for what Jeff O'Neill said, you have every right to make a formal complaint online via the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council site.

http://cbsc.ca/english/complaint/complaint-form.php?

As per the site....

Your Concerns Are Important

If you see or hear something that concerns you, this is what you should do:

1. Write down the following information.

the name, date and time of the program
the name or call letters of the broadcaster
a short summary of what concerned you
2. Let us know.

Send us the details within 28 days of the date of broadcast. We will investigate your complaint further.

The choice is yours.

Are you serious about that? That's for complaints about a show with cussing or extreme violence or something like that.

Complaining to the broadcasting standards council about Jeff O'neil saying no one wants to play in Winnipeg is absolutely laughable imo.

Please stop this Im canadian eh.If players like Wayne Gretzey,Gordie Howe,Bobby Orr,Steve yzerman,Bobby Clarke cared as much about the canadian flag and citizenship they would have settled in canada to retire but no they chose the USA.

What would the reaction be if he said the same thing about Montreal on a TSN Habs broadcast?

Where did this come from? I mean, there are good counterpoints to this (empty headed) argument, but this is completely out of the blue. Go away.

Last warning: discuss Jeff O'Neill and his comments on TSN regarding players signing in Winnipeg - that's the subject of this thread.

Winnipeg Sun has a story about this as well. It hasn't gone away that quietly after all. Im just disappointed TSN would have someone like that on their panel, bring back Marty Biron.

All I can say is WOW!

I didn't care for the comments either, but this thread is completely out of proportion.

It's actually a bit embarrassing.

Claude Noël brought this topic up way back when during year one.

His comment was "if we build a culture of winning and run a good team, people will come. I mean, what the hell is there to do in Green Bay?"

All had kids born in the States and grew up in the states. Completely different. Also wives that are American.

The hockey season is 7 months long (+2 for full playoff run). If someone decides to go play in Florida so that he has 7 months of better golfing... I don't really want him here. I want dedicated hockey players who are coming here to play hockey. I don't care what they do in the off season. If I made millions of dollars per year, I wouldn't be in Manitoba year round either.

Not a citizen of Winnipeg or even a fan (but glad you're back) (evil Leafs fan) but if O'Neil said that, he should be let go by TSN.

Then again I don't get why TSN hires Canadians that don't live here anymore.

I believe O'neill and Kerry Fraser (ask a ref columnist) both live in the states.
I'm sure there's a few former refs and players that didn't turn their backs on their home country that could replace them.

i actually enjoy o'niell on TSN, i did not hear his original winnipeg comments but was listening to a segment on TSNradio1050 today and he made another offhand comment about no one wanting to go to winnipeg. It wasn't much, but it was enough for me to go huh?

O'neil lives in Etobicoke. He's hilarious, a great analyst, and is largely responsible for why Leafs Lunch is developing such a large following. There's a reason he's moving up the ranks so quickly at TSN. He speaks from the heart and his brutal honesty unfortunately rubs a lot of people the wrong way. He's great radio and television.

Perhaps because his "heart" and "brutal honesty" could use a couple facts to back them up to ensure that he's not misguided?

Probably wouldn't make for great shock radio and TV, but I personally prefer SOME critical analysis from my talking heads.

The first 4 pages of this thread are pretty funny with all the personal attacks thrown at O'Neill. Like what does his drinking alcohol have to do with this opinion he has?? It doesn't.

Here is what I got back from TSN Audience Relations. I think the core message is that he is behaving exactly how they want him to behave. Opinion counts more than accuracy. Journalism is racing to the bottom and TSN is on for the ride.

Thanks for your feedback.

As an analyst, Jeff's job is to deliver his unfiltered opinion and, from time to time, his views may be controversial. In this particular case, Jeff shared his views and we will make sure to share your views with him. We'll also be sure to pass along your comments to our executive team.

I got the exact same email

Impressive customer recovery moment by TSN.....a standard issue complaint response :help:

So what TSN are saying is "this is our format". Note to TSN then, if you are hiring analysts to give unfiltered opinions then I suggest you find people who are brighter or have a higher level of self filtering. When someone is factually incorrect then they start insulting people on Twitter you have to ask yourself as their boss “IS THIS THE BEST WE CAN DO

It seems to me Jeff O'Neill is more suited to local sports shock jock then national tv analyst. I expect a more sophisticated level of understanding than he has shown.
