Has hybrid icing turned into no-touch?

I was playing in college when they made the switch from No-touch to hybrid. In the first game or 2 there was a lot of confusion at first among players, coaches, and even refs. But eventually we got used to it. I think I like No-touch better just because it both prevents injuries (the reason for NHL switching from what it used to be to hybrid) and leaves out the ambiguity of who reaches an imaginary line on the ice first. The lazy part of me certainly liked no-touch better

I wouldn't mind if NHL just went to no-touch. It eliminates a possible source of referee error and doesn't really take anything away from the game IMO

I love hybrid icing.

Find it better than both touch and no-touch icing.

It has the ability to both reduce injuries while allowing plays to breakdown neutral zone clogging (ie. shoot the puck down the ice with an onrushing forward to beat out an icing call).

I, for one, wish they do not touch this rule ever again.

Several times a night players are arguing with the ref because they are a stride or more ahead at the hashmarks and its still blown dead.

I'm thinking that, as was the danger with regular icing, any sort of race is going to result in injuries, so unless the player is miles ahead where no real race is happening, they basically give it to the defending team.

I'd be on board if the linesman had the leeway to wave it off if it's a missed pass that goes the length of the ice, as opposed to a clearing attempt. But aside from that, yeah, just go with no-touch. I don't find broken femurs to be particularly entertaining.
i am so with you, i think it so stupid when a dman sends a stretch pass up to a forward, only to have it hit a bad piece of ice and be a "icing"....i think icing HAS to been in the game but they should try to minimize the call as its pretty obvious when a guy is "icing" the puck or when they miss on a pass

Hybrid icing allows for some more creative uses of the ice surface. The Sedins have scored a few goals like this for example:

I grew up knowing no touch icing first(echl), and honestly it's not all that much different than hybrid. I think players are just slightly more aware not to dump the puck carelessly, as there is no race to win
