Has Connor Bedard quietly became underrated ?

He has offensive gifts , he has deficits everywhere else in his game. I’m not sure his gifts are enough to outweigh his diminutive stature but I’m hoping the best for him. I’ve watched him a half dozen games or so now and not noticed him at all unless it’s a powerplay and he has space and time

He had generational like junior production but that doesn’t mean he was a generational prospect. Hes not like Mcdavid or Mackinnon where they can create scoring chance after scoring chance out of nothing. Could still be a 100+ points player tough but Chicago did him dirty by not drafting a perfect winger next to him in Demidov

Pretty much, it's the same thing with Quinn Hughes. I mean, sure you could be a good hockey player but first you have to put the kleenex away and stop crying incessantly.
Quinn Hughes is a phenomenal skater though and can get away with it. Not sure I get the comparison.

He'll be a great player. I am a little disappointed given the hype, though. Still, I know that's unreasonable. He's still doing well overall. More of a Patrick Kane than a Crosby or McDavid, which is not bad at all. It took some time for MacKinnon to get going after his rookie season too.

WTF are Chicago doing. Get Bedard the god damn puck, everytime, all the time. If I see another PP where Donato is taking all the shots and not Bedard I’ll flip my lid. You want this kid to be the franchise, start treating him like it. And get him better line mates too, he’s got nothing to work with.

He is simply too little to be comparable to McDavid or Mackinnon.

He has Patrick Kane upside but that’s his ceiling.

Donato has been much better than Bedard this year.

I know I see it. Bedard is looking a bit timid out there, a bit small and slow. But you need to feed his progress, his skill is undeniable. These bottom dwelling years should have Bedard as a priority. Get him the puck. Allow him to make mistakes. The most important thing for Chicago is making Bedard work. Luke Richardson isn’t building a winner with that roster, stop trying to coach like that’s a possibility and coach to develop Bedard. Get him the puck, all the time, everytime. The PP should run through Bedard no matter what.

That's what they've been doing 98% of the games, and all of last year. It's fine for him to make mistakes but he should be asked to play both sides of the puck and defer if necessary.

In the games I watched they seem to be treating Bedard like anyone else in the line up. And he’s getting zero chances to play with the puck cause he never has it. Just invisible out there. Now of course Bedard has to generate himself too, there’s responsibility there. But you need to nurture his talent. I get that that isn’t how you coach a TEAM. But what’s more important now is ensuring Bedard gets the best opportunity to reach his potential. When McDavid was coming up, the Oilers made it all about him. Got him the puck and all the ice time he could get. Traded puck hog Taylor Hall off the team for the express purpose of making McDavid the man, on the ice and and off the ice.

How is this a positive example? The focus of what people seem to want is to follow team failures.

McDavid has a hall of fame career maybe only behind Gretzky and Lemieux. Hardware to fill rooms. Records to fill books. If you think that’s not a development path worthy of following cause he fell short 1 game of a Cup then go ahead and give Bedard the Lafreniere route as just some guy on the roster.

Is the goal be awful for 8 years but exciting offensively... that's what it seems people want them to follow. Yes, that's an awful plan.

There is some concern of helping Bedard. But I don't think building a team on a guy being.. the guy.. is ever smart. Thats not team development. Nobody succeeds in the NHL that way.

In what world have the Oilers been awful for 8 years. We’ve contended for most years of McDavid era.

But Bedard isn't a McDavid level prospect.
