Has any other player lost three finals in a row?

This thread probably is premature but the example of Corey Perry got me thinking. The Avs are up 2-0 so far and Tampa hasn't impressed in their losses. Perry also ultimately lost with Dallas and Montreal before - against his current Tampa Bay team.

Are there other players who have lost three finals in a row in NHL history?

For those curious, the following players played in every SC Finals game for the 1968, 1969 and 1970 St. Louis Blues: Frank St. Marseille, Gary Sabourin, Jean-Guy Talbot, Jimmy Roberts, Larry Keenan, Noel Picard, Red Berenson, Terry Crisp and Tim Ecclestone (9 players).

Four more players played in all three series - Al Arbour (missed two games in 1970), Bob Plager (two games in 1969), Bill McCreary (one game each in 1968 and 1970) and Barclay Plager (three games in 1970).

Brian Propp lost in all five appearances in the Stanley Cup finals, but they weren't consecutive (1980, 1985, 1987, 1990, and 1991).

I thought for sure Gordie Howe had done it, but he just missed — lost in 1961, 1963, 1964 and 1966. (I think he has the record for most total Finals losses with 7.)

Gerry Melnyk is a funny one—he played in 6 postseasons for three different teams and in 5 of them, his team lost in the Finals. Only two of those were consecutive though—he spent a lot of time in the minors.

The answer to this question is inevitably the Leafs, who managed to lose 5 Cups in 6 years in 34-35, 35-36, 37-38, 38-39, and 39-40.

Bob Davidson, Red Horner, Pep Kelly and Nick Metz were on all 5 teams.
Buzz Boll, Busher Jackson and Bill Thoms were on 4 of the 5, but only lost 2 in a row, though neither Boll nor Thoms played in the 38-39 playoffs.
Reg Hamilton was also on 4 of the 5, but lost 3 in a row.

Syl Apps, Murph Chamberlain, Gordie Drillon, Bingo Kampman, and Turk Broda were on all 3 consecutive loss teams.
Charlie Conacher was on 3 teams but only lost 2 in a row.

Pep Kelly won 0 cups, Red Horner 1, Bob Davidson 2, Nick Metz 4.
Buzz Boll and Bill Thoms won 0 cups, Busher Jackson 1.
Reg Hamilton won 1 cup.
Bingo Kampman and Gordie Drillon won 1 cup, Murph Chamberlain 2, Syl Apps 3, Turk Broda 5.
Charlie Conacher won 1 cup.

Charlie Conacher, Red Horner, Busher Jackson and Bill Thoms were also on the 32-33 Leafs team that also lost in the final, to go along with Andy Blair, King Clancy, Hap Day, and Joe Primeau who added a 3rd finals loss to their resume.

Andy Blair, King Clancy, Charlie Conacher, Hap Day, Red Horner, Busher Jackson, Joe Primeau were all on the 31-32 Leafs team that actually managed to win a final.

Ty Conklin was awfully close from being the backup goaltender for three straight losing finalists. He was the backup goalie for Pittsburgh in 2008, the backup goalie for Detroit in 2009, and prior to that he was a trade deadline acquisition for the Buffalo Sabres in 2007. Sabres were the 1 seed and lost to Ottawa in the Eastern Conference Finals (who subsequently lost to Anaheim in the Stanley Cup Finals).

That would have been 4 straight, he was on the 06 Oilers too.

At least Maple Leaf Gardens in 1940 had the clinching game as the circus forced the New York Rangers to leave MSG III after game 2 with Leah Hextall’s great-grandfather Bryan scoring the series winning goal in OT of game 6.

Sure guys have lost three straight cups. But it's usually on the same team.

Better question is if anyone has ever lost three straight SCF on three different teams.

Conklin came close.

I'm fine with that.
No fan should be fine with that.

The further you get, the tougher the loss is to take.

If your a Bruins fan, you take losing game 7 to Toronto over a game 7 loss at home in game 7 of the SCF (2019).

Just an example.

Of course you'd rather win, but when you've been scraping the bottom of the barrel, a Finals loss sounds much better than the likely alternative for Detroit next season. That was the point of the joke.

I was happy when Petr Sykora finally got to lift the Cup in 2009. Devils won in 2000 but he was in the hospital when the Devils scored in OT. Devils lost in 2001 then Sykora gets traded to Anaheim and they fell short in 2003. Sykora was then on the Penguins squad that lost in 2008.

Obviously he didn't lose three in a row, but three within eight years would have been rough plus he didn't get to celebrate his one win properly.

I want to assure you that some of us got it.
