Final 3-2 Charlotte
Sykora (9) from Ruhwedel
No enjoyment.
Potulny, Mara and Tardif need to find another place to work.
Just brutal hockey.
Not saying they can’t potentially make significant upgrades to the staff there, but i don’t think it’s fair to say they definitely need to clean house based on this season.

They didn’t have a ton to work with btw youth and little experienced talent. They lost a lot of guys they would have expected to lean on to have had any real chance at success. The rangers also pretty regularly swapped guys up and down which makes it tough to find any consistency in the lineup.

I don’t watch enough to feel strongly one way or the other, I’m just saying i’m not sure anyone coulda done all that much with what they had to work with/around this season.

Besides, the ahl is a tough league to manage staff wise. Coaches there are mostly just as eager as players to find their way into the nhl, so it’s hard to keep a great staff around if you find one anyway.

Earlier this week I started thinking about Hartford's season. I was planning on creating a post after the last game tomorrow night. But after seeing Clark's last post about Wednesday's game in which he used the phrases "brutal hockey" and "no enjoyment" I decided there was no reason to wait until the end of the season. Nothing in the last two games were going to change my opinions. So here is the Hartford season analysis prior to Wednesday's game.

Hartford finishes 7th in division only beating out a historically bad and embarrassing Bridgeport team and and 27th out of the 32 AHL teams.

Hartford had only 19 regulation wins, only 4 more than Bridgeport and 29th in the AHL.

Hartford scored 195 goals tied for 28th in the AHL.

Hartford gave up 233 goals, 27th in the league.

Hartford gave up 38 more goals than it scored.

Hartford scored 35 power play goals tied for 29th in the AHL. The power play percentage was 15.6%, 30th in the AHL

Hartford gave up 53 power play goals placing it 30th in the AHL and giving up more goals than Bridgeport. The PK was 23 in % at 79.8%.

Hartford scored 9 short handed goals and gave up six. That results in Hartford being -15 in special teams situations.

This is uniformly bad.

There are lots of reasons for this but I doubt anyone expected these results at the beginning of the season.

Yes, there were call ups of key players, Othmann and Berard in particular. There was a key injury to Bo Groiux who missed 25 games. But other teams had players called up and had injuries.

There was management's failure to bring in a puck moving defenseman so we had to watch a series of not very good defensemen try to run the power play.

There was an unexpected decline in the play of Louie Domingue.

There has been a failure to tap in the NCAA and CHL free agent market to address obvious shortcomings. The only NHL signing in the last three years was a goalie this year, rather than addressing organizational shortcomings in center and defenseman depth.

We can discuss these and other reasons.

But if part of an AHL teams' goal is to win games and create a positive environment, Hartford failed this season and Clark's comments are spot on.

Later on I'll provide some thoughts about the kids' development this year and what to look forward to next year.

I agree that the talent pool has been depleted due to promotions and loss of draft capital.
My point is there doesn’t appear to be a system and if there is one this group of players aren’t following it.
That’s on the coaching staff.
It okay if they lose more than they win as long as they are playing the right way.
There is no structure

Cuylle Berard all scored 20 goals early in their career and became NHL players at their young age. The same will happen for Roobroeck. I won't be shocked if Roobroeck does well enough to start with Rangers next season if he has an impressive training camp.

Is the man in the Sonar costume this guy?

Aspinal will be back in the CHL next season. He has skill and he has height but he’ll need to fill out that frame.
Here’s a story you won’t read in any book.
Back in the 70’s the Washington Capitals had drafted a forward( I think in the 4th round) who was extremely underweight.
The team started having the kid drink three milkshakes a day to the point where the player ended up getting calcium deposits on his knee’s.

Well that’s that.
Disappointing season. Berard made it to the NHL and stayed.
Garand is solid and has come into his own.
Roobroeck should get a look in the NHL next season.
Not sure where Othmann will playing next season.
Dorrington didn’t look out of place.
Sykora is young and still needs to work on his all-around-game.
Unless Chmelar is going to turn in Dale Hawerchuk he needs to work on the defensive side of his game.
Robertson will probably be moving on.
Will probably never know if Scanlin could have been a solid bottom line defender in the NHL or if he would have turned into Connor Allen. The organization screwed up his development with using him on the right side for the better part of two season.
Looking forward to watching Perreault, BMB and Laba develop next season.
Other than that are depth pool is shallow.

Part of me wants them to bring in a new coach for next year, but part of me remembers feeling exactly the same way (down to the fact that there was no discernible system) about Knoblauch when he was here. So who knows.
