I am not an expert on NHL waivers but the way I read the rules he is not exempt from waivers next year. I'm hoping someone can point out that I am wrong.
Here are the rules:
The following table from the current CBA indicates when a player is no longer exempt from waivers. For example, a skater who signs his entry-level contract at 18 will become exempt after playing 160 NHL games, or after five seasons (whichever comes first).
Garand turns 23 on June 7th. He will be completing his third year and because of his three years he is a RFA after this year. According to the chart goalies are no longer exempt if they are 23 and 3 years from signing an NHL contract.
When the Rangers resigned Quick I immediately wondered what effect that would have on Garand.
