I won’t be surprised if we learn that Korczak asked to be moved. He wasn’t going to become a grinder - his game is skilled and he wasn’t getting these opportunities even in Hartford. For the Rangers organization he was just too far down the line and with each year he’d only fall further once he wasn’t able to impress early on.
Yep, I said that in my first post about this transaction. I would guess one or both of the players asked for a trade.

Korczak's ELC is expiring, it's important for him to show something the remainder of this season if he wants a QO. Otherwise he's going to be looking for AHL deals or Europe. You can say the same for Edmonds, although he seems like a good candidate to go over to Sweden anyway.

Minor league guys ask for trades all the time. The marginal prospects like these guys have small windows to prove they deserve to remain on NHL contracts.

That's sub .900 save percentages for Garand in 3 of his last 4 games. I'm sure it's not all on him, but Domingue has picked it up of late, posting .914 or better in 5 of his last 6. We need both goalies to be playing well down the stretch if we are going to make the playoffs.

Hartford in Laval tonight.
Domingue in net
11 forwards

7 d though so far McCarthy is playing wing
Mancini out. Took warmups.

Robertson Fitzgerald
Scanlin. Hillman
Mackey Ruhwedel

Blidh. Belzile. Othmann
Sucese Grouxl McCarthy
Sykora. Leschyshn. Chmler
Blidh. Roobroeck Edmund

1-0 Laval on an early goal.

Another loss for Hartford (5th straight)
3-1(en).
Belzile with the only goal.
One of the longest AHL games I can remember, at least it seemed that way.
I miss Steve Smith. Not a fan of Grant Potulny. Team always seems disorganized.
Domingue with the 3rd star. Louie deserved it. It could have been a lot worse.

How has the site not crashed?
Brannstrom is already 25 and has been passed on by several teams. So I don't see him as having much NHL potential.

But several posts ago, someone (I apologize because I can't remember who, complained appropriately about the lack of offensive ability of the Hartford defensemen. Before the season started I identified this as an issue. On the Hartford PP the coaches tried Fitzgerald, Mancini and now Robertson without a great deal of success. It's not that each Hartford defenseman in not at least an AHL caliber defensemen but that they all are relatively similar in having decent to good defensive skills but not great offensive skills. There is no Reunannen, Pionk, Jones, Hallowell, who can move the puck effectively up the ice and into the offensive zone. That's a failure on the Hartford management.

Brannstrom fills this role and could be very helpful to the Hartford offense. I like this acquisition for that reason.

True. Right now Ruhwedel is their best defensemen with some offensive skill.

pack have lost 6 or 7 in a row now. Othmann has been scoring a bunch of goals but pretty much no other positives. they had a 3-0 and 4-1 lead today and blew it in OT.

I seem to remember last year the Pack going to Laval for two back to back games with pretty much the same result. I don't know why they have the Pack scheduled for two away games on back to back nights in the same place. Laval is pretty much a satellite city of Montreal. It's not like it's out in the middle of the Gaspe peninsula or even that far away.

how's his overall play developing? a couple of PP cleanups does not an NHLer make. nice to see he's not -24 like last year

I don’t know I haven’t watched the pack but goals in 5 of 6 is never a bad thing and they haven’t all come on the PP.

Time to see what he can do at the NHL level with actual ice time.

it's worth noting that before Othmann's recent 5 goals in 6 games, he went 8 games with no goals.

Pack have been a mess since NYE
It's also worth noting that before his 8-game stretch with no goals, he missed 2 1/2 months of the season with an injury. It's not uncommon for players to take time to find their game after a lengthy layoff, and the rest of the team hasn't helped all that much.

The point I'm making is that I wouldn't read too much into either streak.

That said, I think Othmann will be the one called up when we need a forward. Berard got his chance and did well with it, though he still needs to work on some things. Othmann will be given a chance to show what he can do, especially if things continue to go south for the Rangers. If neither the Rangers nor Hartford are going to make the playoffs, they might as well call up some kids and get a look at them.

8 goals and 4 are PPG. He is definitely a better prospect since returning from the injury.
He now finishes his checks. He doesn’t avoid the dirty areas anymore.
The problem with the lack of organizational depth is hurting his development. He needs a playmaking line mate to get him the puck of which there is none. Berard drives play, but by no means is Brett a seam passer.
Othmann just turned 22. Plenty of time for growth. I don’t see him being an everyday NHL player at this point. Hope I’m wrong.

you don't see him being ready for an everyday NHL role? or you don't think he'll ever be an NHL player?
