I watched the second half of the game. Some random thoughts on the kids.

Although Othmann was listed at LW Othmann scored twice on the PP from the right side. He plays like he is arrogant and can do what he wants. Makes a good play to draw the penalty that leads to the second goal. It will be fun watching him at Hartford this year because it doesn't look like he will be there next year.

Henriksson with a couple of great chances in the 2nd and can't bury either. He is clever with the puck but he had trouble scoring last year.

Edstrom very strong on the defensive end because of his long reach and good skating. Didn't see him do much offensively.

Trivigno a couple of nice plays but not outstanding.

Berard apparently made a strong play in the early second before I watched (comment from Mark Driver twitter) but was not that active after.

Sykora and Rempe on 4th line with Henriksson and didn't see a lot of action.

I keep wanting to see Robertson make it but I'm just not a big fan. Doesn't handle the puck well and was beat on the Providence 2nd goal. He played on the 2nd PP, I don't understand why. I like Scanlin more. He plays solid defense.

The game is close only because of the Bruins goalie Buzzi, a Long Island kid who grew up a Rangers fan. I think the Rangers didn't go hard after him because the team had Garand. When I turned the game on the shots were 13-12 Hartford. From that point on the Pack outshoot the Bruins 23-12. Buzzi with several great saves.

I thought I saw the Laviolette influence. Defense very active in attacking in the offensive zone and team sometimes would go into 1-3-1 on defense. That's a positive having the kids learn the system.

I watched as well.

Othmann is very smart about finding space on the ice. His style of play hasn't changed in any drastic way from Juniors. He's a bit of a freelancer in some ways and it'll be curious to see if they try to change any of that. But he certainly has a nose for offense. His shot is still great and he finds time/space to use it. One thing that stood out on his second goal. There was a scramble around the net and the puck came out to him at the top of the circle and he didn't fire it right away. He waited a moment for his teammate to move out of the way and then he fired it above the sprawled out goalie. I thought he showed some serious poise for a rookie. Having watched multiple seasons of AHL hockey, that kind of poise and IQ is rare. Usually players rush their chances. Just heady and confident. Kinda reminds me of Stepan when he turned pro. Not the greatest skater. Def a clunky stride but boy does he play smart. His game is comparable to Tarasenko in that way. I see a lot of similarities but Othmann has more size.

I thought Rempe, Henriksson and Sykora were effective on the forecheck. Didn't generate any goals, but I find them an effective trio.

Also found it interesting that they had Nash centering Othmann and Berard and sorta treated them as the first line. I think Berard might be 2nd in line prospect call up wise for forwards, but he'll likely spend at least this year in HFD barring a slew of injuries. Watched him a bunch in Providence and I just hope his game reverts back to 2 seasons ago when he was a waterbug. I see things trending that way which is a good thing.

HFDs forward group seems younger and deeper than I can remember. But the D corp is mediocre. Domingue started but frankly I think they need to give far more games to Garand. I want that kid to be the NHL backup by start of next season. I think he has the potential whereas we know what Domingue is.

Fritz isn't on the team anymore as far as I know. I could see them sitting Elson maybe, but I'm kind of expecting the best possible lineup for game one, and then as nyr2k2 said, there'll be guys popping in and out of the lineup all season.
Probably not sitting Elson considering he’s wearing a letter, no?

Don’t mind Othmann freelancing in the O zone as long as he can handle the defensive assignment.

Yeah, I never thought about that when I responded. They ended up going with Korczak and Blidh for game one. Blidh is a bit of a surprise for me, considering he was signed as an outside shot at NHL 4th liner.
Same. Raised an eyebrow when I read Blidh sat. But I guess a vet had to sit and maybe he’s a little banged up or something. I actually think Blidh is effective and fun to watch. I hope he plays a lot.

Mark Divver on Twitter said Blidh sat due to the veteran maximum rule. I didn't count it out myself but I think @cwede did before. Divver is pretty reliable though.

Othmann's first shot on goal was his late 2nd period goal. After that his game really took off.

Elson is a very good AHL level player. A bit more offensive pop than Blidh.

Hartford's team this year is deep. Blidh has a physical game and is a very good agitator. Elson maybe not so physical but he used to get into a lot of fights...not really that much anymore. He's become a 40 some point player which at the AHL level these days kind of puts a player in second line territory.

The Cyclones play their two preseason games this weekend and then open at home next weekend. A free calendar plus $2 hot dogs and $2 beers for anyone who makes the trek to Cincy

Yeah Blidh was instrumental for Hartford down the stretch last year. He really earned his contract. I'm sure he'll be back in the lineup, likely tonight.

Somewhere up above is my post w AHL vet rule and an effort to calculate career games played for Pack vets.
I may have misread/miscalculated that Pack have no concerns in that regard

Blidh would be of particular interest to PBruins audience, most of his career to-date was with Bruins pipeline, prior to his brief tenure in Avs’ org which led him here

Yeah. Saw that. I was just suggesting that, having to sit one vet maybe they went with whomever is most banged-up. Just my speculating.
