I missed the first. Pack down 2-0. They're continuing their trend of taking too many penalties, with 3 in the first.

I didn’t think Day was going to be sent to the ECHL, but I did think he’d be rotating in and out of the lineup, happy to see he’s been a regular and I didn’t think he looked out of place at all in Sunday’s game

Yeah so far he's been able to keep pace in the AHL, which is great to see.

Gropp gets knocked down, drags the puck into the net with him

Assists to Andersson and Meskanen.

Very intriguing prospect. Do you think he can be a top 9 guy?
I always thought he could be bottom six. So, obviously there's that third line overlap. For me it comes down to whether he's more of a legitimate third line player or a fourth. I really think if he continues to develop he could be money on the third line. He just does a lot of little things well. Smart things. It's easy to see this 6'6'' dude smashing guys in the offensive corners and think that's what he is, but he can move the puck around and make some smart, subtle plays.

My concern was always his skating. I think it looks like shit, but he's covering a lot of ground and it seems to play at the professional level. I started getting excited during camp because he was showing a game very similar to what he played in Soo, and it's always good when a guy's game is translatable level-to-level.

Yup, Gettingers skating looks awful, but he's always gotten to where he needed to be fairly fast, that's why i always defended his skating when it was criticized. Imagine him after training with a skating coach.

I understand skating is a big part of making it to the NHL but I feel people often overestimate its importance in comparison to the ability to read the game.

Hajek with 2 SOG and +1 in a game that was 2-5 at ES, nice. Hopefully he gets a cup of coffee sooner rather than later.
I know what you mean but I'll take later if it means he's a solid second pair defenseman for the next 8-10 years.

Gettinger, Lindqvist, Meskanen, Andersson, Hajek, Bigras--it's early but you'd like to see how each are holding up two or three weeks from now before deciding to bring any of them up.

Then again if the Rangers don't win soon I suspect some changes will be made--recalls or maybe even a trade. In any case I don't think the Rangers are going to sit idly by and tank from the beginning. They are going to try to win games and at the least make a playoff run however realistic that is....so.......

Skating is definitely one of those areas that has kind of taken on a life of its own.

I'd put in my holy trinity of things that a lot of people over-focus on, along with age and perceived skills.

Yes, the league is more mobile than its ever been. But I'd probably argue that there are many times that strategically plotting a course works significantly better than just darting around the ice aimlessly. One of the downsides of highlight sharing on the internet is that we've become accustomed to seeing highlight reel plays. Let's be honest, they're fun to watch.

But we often overlook that the majority of goals are scored from being in the right place, at the right time, and knowing how to get there. I think there's also a tendency to focus on the so-called "high skill" players --- including those with speed, while not necessarily taking into account whether a player's style is more likely to succeed in the NHL. That's not to say high-end skill and speed isn't important, or an indicator of success. But we do have to make sure we don't create too narrow of a vision for what an NHL prospect looks like.

17 points in 28 AHL games, 19 total points in 35 professional North American games, all while still a teenager.
17 in 28 is still a bit low for my liking, but a lot of that can be pegged on Hartford being s dumpster fire last season. He looked pretty damn good in the weekend games, and I’d really like to see him have a different LW than Gropp. I don’t think they work well together.

Who does Gropp work well with? Barzal doesn't count.
