Which Hart Trophy Winner had the better season?

I don't think you can go wrong here, Ovechkin brought more total value due to playing more games while Malkin may have been slightly better on a per-game basis. Both probably top 5 offensive seasons of the last 20+ years.

Two great seasons but I'm very comfortable going with Ovechkin here. Neither played much defence but both could carry the play in these seasons, however I like Ovechkin's physical dimension and he had less to work with than Malkin did. Also Malkin missing seven games is a negative when we are comparing these seasons. I don't care about the goals fixation but I do care that I'd much rather have seven more games with peak Ovechkin than not.
Malkin was not as physical as Ovechkin, but he was still a physical player. He was better in his own zone than Ovechkin was as well. Super close call either way on who had the better season.

Eh I think Malkin was more randomly dirty than physical. Ovechkin was someone players took note of. Thinking more about their defence more, I'd actually say that it's an advantage for Ovechkin. Neither played much defence at all, but that's less of an issue for a winger compared to a centre.

Malkin was better.

Better all-round player, much better vision and passing, and actually knew how to play defence, unlike Mr. Controller disconnected.

Before his second knee surgery (2021), Geno was pretty solid in the physicality department.
