He has played perfectly as the 6th D. Might be the best understated move of this season. He just fits his role and this team well. Assuming he keeps it up, the acquisition of depth D is going to be less expensive because they will not be looking for a guy to play major minutes, but be a reliable injury fill in. He really has solidified the D.

He's done a good job killing multiple possessions with meaningless weak wrist shots from the blue line.
Are you expecting offense from the #6? Definitely don’t think he should be in the top 2 pairs. He plays reliable, steady, and boring defense. That is all I ever care about from #s 6 & 7. I wish Hajek could do that consistently.

He kinda stinks but hes better than Hajek or Jones at this point and he plays a simple game. Id be more than happy with him as a 7 but they need a clear upgrade in their top 6 D

I would have done anything for Ottawa to keep him in the lineup instead of Claesson in '17. He was our best player.

he sucks but hajek sucks much worse so it's if anything an upgrade.

Happy with him as 7D. Would like them to bring Jones back though to play with Schneider or Trouba more regularly. If the team is a bit more stable- and they seem to have gotten themselves together- I’d like to see Jones brought back up. Harpur can be there 7D. Hajek probably needs a fresh start elsewhere.

I would love Jones to take it and there is nothing about Harpur that blocks it from happening. Jones needs to be able to deal with the physical stuff more. I am not expecting him to throw big hits, but he gets bodied too easily. He needs to watch how Fox does it. Aside from that, his play has dipped from the beginning of the year. He is in his own head too much. I hope he does come back, but if he doesn’t unquestionably grab the spot, I can see them shelving him until next year for guys with size for a playoff run.

He probably has a mindset from the 90s which old school guys like Joe have "no shot is a bad shot". Such bullshit.
That's fine for your 6th D, he's been taught to do that because if he tries anything fancier it ends up in the back his net. He wants to stick in the NHL and mistake free hockey at D, especially bottom pair, is how it's done.

I think it would make sense to dump it in, no? A weak wrister from the point is usually a lost possession, no?

No traffic sure, but if there's a guy available for a tip, or some traffic, or heading to the net for a rebound, then not a terrible play even if very low %y, especially if our forwards are not in the best position to win a race for a dump in, then weak wrister is fine. The game is insanely fast especially for some guys and decision making isn't their best attribute, so when in doubt, get it on goal.

This shot at 26:16 of the video is a terrible play. There's no pressure. He can wait. He can pass to Lafreniere to his right, He can pass it along the boards to Kakko. He can dump it in deep. Instead he throws a weak wrister towards the net, with zero Rangers in front, totally unscreened and it's easily blocked and brought out of the zone. He's done this several times. Even if it get to the net it would be an easy save and either a whistle or a rebound directly to either of the two Flyers right in front with no Ranger nearby.
