Eh, I would have preferred Nelson, but I do like how everyone they are bringing in is coming from top teams, SC champs, or teams that made it to the SC. I think that kind of culture is needed after what this team went through. Our coach is going to expect to win.

If the Coyotes announce that Rick Tocchet will be the next Head Coach will you be satisfied with the hire overall or disappointed in the hire overall? What's your general reaction? Positive or negative?

The names that have surfaced, Tocchet is by far the less risky of the bunch, and in my mind the best of the bunch. I would like to see Nelson as maybe an assistant.

The way I see it, anyone who was part of a winning environment for the last 2 years is a huge improvement over someone that ices a close minded, almost talent suppressing game.

We don't know how Nelson would do with his first head coach job in the NHL, just like we don't know what Tocchet can provide after his time spent in Pittsburgh.

The world we live in today:
Fact 1- Dallas Eakins was once a highly coveted coach by many NHL teams.

Fact 2- Mike Sullivan didn't do that hot in his first pro coaching stint either.

That said...having Nelson as an assistant would put a pretty bow on this offseason.

I voted happy. He's gotten solid reviews from colleagues and players while coaching in an offense first system.

I'll be especially happy if Nelson actually comes on as an assistant/associate. It would give us a solid succession plan as long as Nelson doesn't get poached before Tocchet wears out his welcome.

He needs stud assistants for me to be real enthusiastic about the hire. It just seems like an unnecessary gamble (no pun intended), so I am curious to hear Chayka's reasoning behind the hire.

I'm fine with Tocchet. If he's not the one then we get an experienced coach just as the kids mature into their prime.

Sure as **** not going to say no to someone who has two cups in the last two years. He was in total control of the Penguins offensive systems if I'm not mistaken.

If they bring in a purely defensive assistant coach and let Tocchet focus on our young forwards, I'm more than okay with that.

Cautiously optimistic. Slightly less so than I would have been with Nelson or Keefe. His overall track record is hit-and-miss but the hits are mostly more recent. I'm not especially worried about record over the next couple years anyway, and his strength seems to be getting forwards to play to their potential.

That's definitely a simpler task when you have three of the most dominant offensive players in the league, but Crosby, Malkin and especially Kessel have all thrived under him. The main knock on Tippett was that he was good with grinders but held back his scorers, and we have a whole lot of scorers to develop. Tocchet should be a better fit in that regard.

Pretty happy. I think if I had a pick I may still have picked Nelson, but really any of Nelson, Keefe, Krueger and Tocchet were cool with me. Even Eakins would've been ok, because after the last few seasons I'd be ok with just about anyone other than Tippett. I just didn't see a reason to pick Eakins over any of the others. Getting Nelson as an AC would be insane, if we pull it off I'm pants crappingly happy. Hell grab Eakins to coach the D, maybe he could do a better job this time around.

My only concern is Tocchet flaming out, because he's one of my favorite coyotes ever. It would suck to have his coaching stint make me not like him as much *cough Gretzky.

XX hit on it...... It isn't just the HC position.... it's also how they fill out the rest of the staff.

The full staff will be important. Good start.

Head coach is the most important, by a big margin.

Any of the coaches mentioned for the HC could flame out. None are a Babcock.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying there, I'm saying Iif he flames out it would suck more because of how much I liked him as a player. I don't want it to taint my memories of his playing days. For example I pretty much hate Gretzky now.

I think for most of us after Tippett, it's like a starving man given a cracker. I'd be happy with pretty much anyone but I loved Tocchet as a player and feel good about his coaching experience especially with the Pens. You never know if it's going to work out but I like the direction they are going here.

I haven't loved every move they've made this off season but you have to admit, they seem to be making solid decisions with a game plan in mind that centers around the talented youth we've assembled the last few years. I think we all can agree that's the best path to turning this franchise around. I'm more excited about this coming season than I have been maybe ever. Hope I'm not disappointed which means they are at least fun to watch.
