I like the idea of privacy in general and given the option I'd prefer my data not sold, but am I they only one who doesn't really get all worked up over data mining and whatever? Like if Google tells the Chinese government that I'm searching for garden soil or watching cooking videos on youtube, I don't see how that matters or why they would even care.

They don’t care .
What they mine for is data base access.
US government, healthcare, banking, locations of individuals and government locations.
Anything that can serve as useful from a spying end up to and including using said as a cyber attack.

Google, Facebook, X, Instagram are apples. Tic Toc is an orange.

Remember the scene from Dark Knight Rises where Lucius Fox was able the harness the feeds from every smart phone in the city to give Batman a virtual map on how to attack the building? That's basically what AI can do, only with Tik Tok, that AI is in the hands of the CCP. So your video of garden soil or cooking dinner may not be much, but string it together with millions of others, then apply AI, and you just may be giving the Chinese government a detailed map of the area's water resources and electrical grid.

and banking systems with everyone using pay apps or credit/debit cards to buy stuff from influencers in the TikTok shop

I also saw a story about Amazon packages, bearing in mind that products are shipped from China, and how there are QR codes being put on them that can get access to your phone. They say things like "get started", scan the code. There are so many ways to get our info.

Big, cold snap coming, this is the best winter we have had in a long time. Luckily we know how to bundle up.
I have approximately 22 crocheted blankets, I think I'm good lol

But can you say "static electricity"

Big, cold snap coming, this is the best winter we have had in a long time. Luckily we know how to bundle up.

My brother lives in England and they've had some proper cold weather there lately too. Temps well into the minuses (Celsius) and quite a lot of snow, which is not really that common there.

When I lived over there years ago it was nice whenever we got a real cold spell (within limits!). There is something about genuinely crisp, cold air and the quiet, peaceful falling of snow that's very pleasant, as long as it's proper snow and not the slushy stuff. I do miss that. What I don't miss is the sun going down at 3:30pm and the days on end of gloomy, blah weather. That's where that sort of winter turns into a drag for me. Can't really have one without the other I suppose!
