OT - NO POLITICS Happy Holidays Edition

I think I’ve actually eaten in there once in 27 years. No kidding.
We moved from a tiny ranch to this much bigger house after our twins were born. In the pics the dining room and front living room / office were without any furniture. We didnt have rooms like that before and so they were empty. My twins rode their big wheels around and through both rooms like Ben Hur.
It drove my father in law nuts. So he took the Bride to Jordans and had her pick out a dining room set on him. True story.

We use ours twice a year. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve dinner. On those two days, all the crap gets dumped onto the floor in my office. The things we do for love.....

Her parents gave us a 12 setting set of silver when we got married. I also spent the first 6 years of our marriage saving up to get her china pattern completed. Do we use any of it? Hell no. Gotta hand wash that stuff and it ain't worth the hassle. Early in our marriage, I used to kid her that the fancy stuff doesn't make the food taste any better. She was not amused.

The Big Wheel was one of the best inventions ever. I can still hear the sound of those plastic wheels on asphalt lol

I just won concert tickets from a radio contest. I wanted to see the artist but my expendable income is a bit stretched thin right now so I didn't feel it would be prudent to buy tickets. I happened to hear a promotion on the radio to enter for a chance to win tickets through their website so I figured I'd throw in an entry, and I got an email that I won.

Pretty cool. I've never actually won anything from a raffle or contest before.

Bought that shit 30 years ago when the wife and I got married. We pretty much use it to hold a bunch of stuff as well.

I love the holidays too.

Many of my immediate family (four boys, four girls) birthdays fall between October and December.

1 September through 1 January is by far my favorite time of year.

Mercifuly rid of Summer, on to gorgeous Autumn, hockey, and my favorite holidays.

Many treasured, nostalgic memories of family and friends.

I don't mind the cold, either.

I think you're oversimplifying. Way too complicated to explain on a message board post. Suffice it to say that it depends on the Tax Bracket you are in, the State you live in and how much you've already contributed to Social Security, for starters. I will say that what you've seen withheld, is a little more than me. But I gotta pay for private healthcare, so there's that.....

End of the day, we all pay Ceasar what is Ceasar's, no matter where we live.....

Between this and my next pay with my "normal" bonus, I will pay over 55 thousand dollars in tax and it .....is disheartening to say the least, lol

I am very socialist in nature - in other words, I am fine to pay my share - even more than my share - for things like our healthcare model - but losing more than half and paying more in tax than some of my fellow citizens earn in a year is really gnawing at me as I continue to inch towards retirement in ten years-ish

Highest federal tax is 37%. Mass state tax is 5% + 4% for anything over $1 million. Assuming total income not over $1 million, taxes on 28,000 would be $11,760.

Note: This is what you would pay in taxes, not counting any credits or deductions. The withholdings on the actual check are a completely different matter. Those depend on what you declare, i.e. dependents, marital status, etc. Two people with the exact same check and the exact same tax bracket would have two very difference net amount on that check.

Instead of focusing on how much I'm paying, I try to focus on how wisely the money I'm paying is being spent. That's about as far as I'll go there....
