I'm not wired this way. I don't know how to mail it in.
Sometimes I wish I did.
Same. Would love to be able to not care

I’ve stopped being so forgiving.
When people show you who they are, believe them.
I am dealing with that exact thing right now. Our CEO got whacked about 4 months ago, and the new guy (an external hire) is superb. Exactly what we need.I had a boss like that. Never made a decision, never gave an opinion, was hired because he just did what the idiots above him told him to and never made waves. Then the idiots got purged, the people who replaced them were actually competent, and my boss took early retirement after getting threatened with a PIP for the very actions that endeared him to the former executives. It takes a while, but eventually, if leadership isn't working against it, the incompetent rise to surface and are skimmed off the top.
If leadership isn't against it.... and let me add, if it isn't a family-run business....I had a boss like that. For many a year I was the most selfish person on the planet, but can honestly say now that I am not I am the happiest person on the planet that can see his blessings in abundance.Lou I love you brother
yeah that's.....that's crazy. Had you kept the higher-performing employee in that role I could see it, but it was resumption of normal duty - how is that not resignation, lol
It could be (without knowing the intricacies obviously) that this was a bigger picture calculated talent move that they decided to swallow a package on
i first "liked" the post, then when I finished had to shift to a lawl emoji lolThat's exactly what it was. My choice was to either 1) Reject his severance request and force a guy go back into a role that he struggled in previously, and clearly had no desire to return to; or 2) give him 4 months, be done with the headache, and promote someone who was eager to do the job, and demonstrated that they could do it well.
As much as I hated the idea of paying a guy for wanting to quit, I bit the bullet. I figured that if we forced him to come back, he'd just "quiet quit" on me and I'd end up spending the next 4 months putting him on a PIP and going through the bullshit of having to formally separate him. I figured I was gonna end up paying him 4 months anyway, so I just eliminated the headache.
Here's where it got interesting.........After we offered him 4 months severance, he COUNTERED back asking for 12! I told him he could either take the 4 months, or I expected him back to work on Monday and we'd do it the hard way.
He ended up taking the 4 months....

I'm sure there are some good ones out there, but I have no desire to work for another family-run business.
Unfortunately for me, I spent way too much time at a place where the people in charge were deathly afraid of being exposed for the idiots they were, so they never hired anybody smarter than them (if they could help it) and that bar was not very high. I was hired because I was critical to the job, and as such I was resented, and had a target on my back from day one. Luckily, that has all changed and the chickens have come home to roost. Almost makes it worth the hellish years (Almost).

You can also take 6 paid months off because you need to bond with your pet hamster now tooAs a millennial, let me introduce you to a concept called quiet quitting...
You should quit, then get a job in a restaurant, boast to everyone about how you're the hardest and best worker in the whole kitchen, completely blind as to why that rubs the manager and other coworkers the wrong way and complain about them and their attitudes toward you until everything breaks down and you quit and find a new restaurant.we should all ask ourselves: WWT85D?
I volunteered to get laid off in 2018 but they threw a sweet package my way to do so. Was the best decision I have ever made career wise.Hey Kate, understanding that American policy may differ here, perhaps even state by state, a question - can one (safely) volunteer to be laid off, or would that be considered an implicit resignation and thus disqualify someone from severance?
Asking for a friend who’s definitely not me teetering on the precipice of corporate hell
Someone else
Entirely
Yeah that’s the key - getting that offer firstI volunteered to get laid off in 2018 but they threw a sweet package my way to do so. Was the best decision I have ever mad career wise.
Same here. It is one lesson my dad instilled in my sister and I. If I even think of doing something half assed I usually here his voice in my head going "I wouldn't do that if I were you." Gets me every time.I'm not wired this way. I don't know how to mail it in.
Sometimes I wish I did.
This was the second time they dangled a package at us that year. The first one was insulting. This one had a few of us say yes. I'm glad I took it because a few months later they dropped the hammer and the people who stayed got nothing extra.Yeah that’s the key - getting that offer first
We have some understated doom and gloom around here (must be the record profits for the 487th straight quarter) and I feel like raising my hand saying pick me pick me and then heading 12-18 hours north and saying goodbye to society woah this got dark
I finally found a Gingerbread House that is just the right size! Happy Holidays! Yes, that is Rocky Mountain Chocolate behind me.
