The Jim Benning portraits were one of the best part of the Benning era...

Example 1. Stunned Benning:

I think the single thing that saved him here was Brock Boeser being a Calder candidate that season. Like everything else about his management was a complete disaster but look at little Brocky go! That Benning really can draft and that's the only thing that matters!
I'll take responsibility then. I put him in my Boeser highlight video.

Benning liberation day!....seems like eons ago now, but only three years.

But the best part of the Dec. 5th massacre was that the owner finally bowed to the obvious....it was time for him to butt out as well. But not before he personally hired Bruce Boudreau, and saddled the incoming administration with another coaching headache to sort out.

Amazing what can happen when you hire competent, experienced hockey executives......and then get out of the way and let them do their jobs.

In the beginning, the homer in me really wanted to believe he was the right hire, I even defended some of the moves he made that turned out not so good, but after a while it became painfully obvious he was in over his head.

In the end, the Benning era felt to me like the darkest part of the 80's.

I’ve heard he’s in Portland but has residence in Vancouver and his kids, not sure how many, still live there.

There were rumblings about his kids in Vancouver and how they conducted themselves. Don’t wanna say too much on here as there’s ‘stories’ may have shit twisted.

One of my best friends has a story involving his kids so…yeah there’s a lot out there about his family.

I read Ed's book and facepalmed at this part... but like, what's Aquilini doing? If he's a "fan-owner" as everyone says, his first thought should be "that guy ain't coming here, don't waste my time."

i mean there’s the kind of fan who knows all the obscure australia-only b-sides and has studied the inner workings of which producer contributed the most to the songwriting, whose string arrangements were the best, what sticks the drummer uses. and then there’s the kind that just wants to spend $300 or $600 or $2,000 and hear born to run or jeremy or shake it off.

guess which kind aqua is

I can't believe we don't have something like that for a much much worse GM (1st anniversary was on November 1st)

At the same time, that's the apathy he has built, nobody cares anymore, we're just zombie fans.

What saved Benning was Trevor Linden. He "put his job on the line" to save Benning.

Hard disagree.

Pierre Dorion traded 24 y/o Filip Gustavsson for 35 y/o Cam Talbot (1 year before UFA) and this is not even Top-5 in his worst moves

You were saying?

Believe me, there's absolutely no limit to how bad Pierre Dorion was as a GM. Whatever Benning did in comparison is PALE

I started a comparison with Mike Milbury a few months ago and stopped quickly as I realized it would not be EVEN CLOSE.

Read that again.

ok that's bad but McCann wasn't proven at all back then and it took years before he became relevant. Gudbranson was a young Top-4 D-man former 3rd OA pick so it's actually not that bad.

To be honest, I'm not even sure it would make Dorion's Top-10 but I'll re-up you with :

2018 7th round pick
Derick Brassard
July 18, 2016
2018 2nd round pick
Mika Zibanejad

Zibanejad was 23 y/o, a recent 6th OA who had paced for 21 goals, 49 points per 82 games at 21-22 y/o. Brassard was 29 y/o, scored 100 pts in 201 games with Ottawa. Notice how they are the ones who gave up a 2nd round pick, which is a meme among Sens fans lol

Jim Benning on the trade call with Florida said "you guys probably want more then Jared McCann right?" The guys in Florida could barely contain their laughter as they waited to see what else they could get.

Tampering penalty. Had to have his hand held on getting his team cap compliant for the season.

Left his lame duck coach hung out to dry to answer questions about the teams terrible season, sexual assault allegations about one of their players, covid etc. He just disappeared and didn't do any media.

Treated Utica like it was Siberia. Went almost a whole season without talking to anyone in the development system.

That's barely scraping the surface. Also, do you know where you are?

Forsling for Adam Clendenning lol.
